Since Normans were descended from the Norse, was it a type of Viking long boat? or more similar to large ships with sails, etc?

They were a plainer copy of the Viking dragon ships. You can see a picture of one at

actually "viking" long boats had sails. during the time of William the bastard(he wasn't known as the conqueror until after he sailed across and won the battle) almost all the boats being used on the Atlantic were of the "viking" or clinker built design
larger sailing ships such as you see in the pirate movies were not invented until many centuries latter. In the Mediterranean the had boats with a triangular or lateen sail
