I live in Medford OR, that's the border of Oregon and California. I was thinking going all the way down to Bakersfield CA, and then to las Vegas but a friend told me that he heard that there was a faster way to get there does any one know?

I would take Highway 5 south to Sacramento, then over to Reno and down to Vegas on the only main highway (whatever it's called).

This is quite an interesting trip, as much of the time it's only through desert, but occasionally there will be a little town with one gas station, one old trailer and the inevitable casino. I appreciate strange little places like this, for a while, anyway.

Highway 5 does go all the way to Bakersfield, where one can take 58 east and then 15 north to Vegas. This route goes through desert country as well, but I find the other route more interesting.

I don't know which is faster or fewer miles. Mapquest can tell you.

Drive safely, buckle up... it is enforced here!

Ok, I checked with mapquest. It takes almost 9 hrs to get form Reno to Vegas and 5 hours to get from Medford to Reno for a total of 14 hours. Going through Bakersfield takes just over 13 hours. It depends on how you want to go. The Bakersfield route sticks to main highways/interstates. The Reno route takes you on some two lane middle of nowhere highways.

I think go through Reno,NV then head south, it is about 8-10 hours from Reno the speed limit is 70mph almost all the way there.
