The idea of writing, be it stories or poetry, is to make it your own. Especially when in school. Copying somebody elses work serves no purpose for you...you are simply taking a grade on somebody elses hard work and emotion.
Poetry is only as good as the emotion put into it... I have always believed that and I know my husband does as well.... Anybody can slap some words onto a piece of paper but if there's no emotion involved, they are merely words. Both my husband and I are poets so I felt it only fitting for me to answer this question.

Take time and think for yourself...even if you use an old one, like "roses are red" and change the words so that it fits your particular theme. Check out stuff online, there are many styles in which to write poetry, Haiku (I hope that is the correct spelling), sonnet, etc. Do some research or look through your text books, I'm sure you'll find stuff there.

Good luck.

A good poet to be,
Shun mediocrity,
Always make sense,
And use the correct tense

I'm so-so. I believe the teacher wants you to write it, not me. Besides, I don't write for free unless my husband needs a bit of help.
