I just purchased a few female guppies. I just noticed that one has a white stripe down it's side (it wasn't there before). It looks like the scales are either gone or have turned pale. The fish is still lively and eating. Could this be caused by scraping against the edge of the heater or is this a disease?

The stripe is getting larger...starting to extend over its back. It looks kind of raised too, like a bump. The fish is still eating though and swimming around.

I would say it's a color pattern that you didn't notice before. It could be that in the shop they were rather stressed and it just didn't show up.

Since these are new fish nine times out of 10 it's just natural coloring that you didn't notice before.

Just keep an eye on her for a few days, and as long as she keeps acting normally and eating I don't think you really have anything to worry about.
