A girl I dated who is with the FBI now started out as an accountant. How do you think we track all the terrorists? Bingo, follow the dollar, money doesn't lie, so, it can be fun if you are into that sort of thing, busting terrorists. I would gladly do that, but I don't have the aptitude for accounting, of course I never took a class.

So, in summary, it isn't the accounting that is dull, it is what you choose to account that can be dull.

Accounting is the type of thing that requires quiet and concentration. That means that there is very little social interaction on a daily basis. Accountants are notoriously narrow minded in that respect. They rely on the continuity of the numbers, the financial ups and downs, of the client they are representing.

Other than getting receipts or other applicable information, an accountant rarely converses, much less socializes, with the people they encounter.

They are strictly numbers people - 1+1=2 - there is NO other answer! No discussion or creativity!

What's worse is that, for the importance of what they do, they are so underpaid. Managing & having access to another's money brings temptation too. That's why embezzelment and fraud is so rampant among accountants and financial managers.

One other thing - accountants have very little sense of humor.

I have an accounting degree and love it. It's a little bit liking investigating, but you are using numbers instead of people. I'm not dull and I hate talking about money. I'm probably the last person that wants to bring up money outside of work. You can't judge a person or profession based on stereotypes. Some might call that ignorant. Also I don't see the correlation between chess and accounting. Can someone explain that one?

The subject is relatively dull, but not for people who love math or seeing the beauty of balanced books. The individuals in accounting are varied.

Guess what I majored in, LOL.

I loved my accounting I and II class in school. Maybe because I like playing with numbers and money.

Accounting is not dull. But it's not for everyone. You're either love it, or hate it. Accounting is a lot like chess. If you like chess, chances are you will love accounting.
