Now, for those of you on YA! today, you have no doubt noticed all the hoopla regarding Gen. Pace and his comments and those who support him and those who don't. Now would someone please help me to understand something. A question was posted earlier which made a tongue in cheek commentary as to why should gays bother to serve and instead why not stay home. Now, what I found funny was that many of the same people who vehemently agreed with Gen. Pace suddenly started making comments like "why won't gays fight for their country?" So please pro-Pace people, as my question asks, which is going to be?

Note: I also asked this in the Politics forum where most pro-Pace comments were made.

Just FYI, this question seems to have silenced the critics, I noticed many peeked at it but did not answer. Could it be that some of them didn't like the mirror I held up?

Once again, Java, you avoid the question and go right to the epithets. Where my I ask in my question did I ever say the General couldn't speak his mind.....that's right, nowhere, you just pulled that out of thin air. I know you hate gays and given the chance you would murder us but please, if you can't at least stay on topic could you just not bother answering the question. You lack of intelligence is actually quite painful to watch and frankly you do your kind a disservice by actually living up to the stereotype of your people.

The significance of reversing the gay military ban is that, until a minority achieves equality in the military, they don't really achieve equality in the society. Equality in the U.S. military will likely have a domino effect in America, since you can't really continue to discriminate for long against people who fight to protect you.
This happened with blacks: They had segregated units, but were eventually integrated, most notably in Vietnam. Once they are integrated at equal status, the rest of society tends to catch up quickly.
Bigots know this is true, and so keeping a ban on gay in uniform is key to their crumbling prejudices.

I had a feeling that would eventually happen. People quickly forget the demeaning comments they make about others when they realize they actually need them. Lame. Thanks for pointing this out. I found it kind of funny myself when several high ranking members of the military started changing their position on gays in the military earlier this year, or late last year. Now when we have this tremendous shortage and the troops are spread so thin it's OK to have an open policy. Very frustrating stuff.

In all politics logic is irrelevant. The same with homophobia and fundamentalism.
Here's a side question: since when does a man whose whole career centers on WAR have room to make MORAL judgements?
People down south used to say it was immoral for blacks & whites to mix.
Being left-handed used to be considered evil.
Pigheaded fools have to hate somebody, and now the acceptable scapegoat (made more so by Bush) is gay people.

Gen. Pace is nothing but one of President Homophobe's little dogs. All Pace is doing is parroting the same old lame lies, assumptions and stereotypical b.s. they've been fed by other bigots their whole lives. And, of course the General isn't going to contradict President Dubya...our illustrious "leader" (I sure as hell didn't vote for him!), the man who made amending the Constitution to legally discriminate against millions of people part of his election campaign.....and made it "cool" for bigots to come out of the closet. he's taken this country about 100 steps backwards with that, and all the other lies, b.s, and screw ups and scandals since he's taken office! can't wait until 2008!!

I am NOT a pro-Pace anything..but what I have noticed is that those who are homophobic (makes no sense what so ever) make little sense in anything they say..they contridict themselves left and right, utter the most stupid remarks, and in general, prove themselve to be the asses of asses. It isn't just here, it is a trait we see every day in those who think time should stand still, stuck in a time-warp of the 1950's. Good luck

I agree with you 100% JD. But to be really honest, most of politics is like that, isn't it? And both sides are guilty of it, unfortunately. One side says something, and whoever is on the opposite side AUTOMATICALLY disagrees, whatever is said. That is the nature of politics in the US, quite often. For instance, if Bush were to come out today and say BLACK, there would be many democrats who would say, NO, WHITE! And vice versa.
That is what makes Sen. Warner, VA (R) and his remarks SUPPORTING gays in the military so refreshing. I dislike his OTHER policies, but I DO respect him for what he has said.

I believe in supporting the troops we have, whether they're gay, straight, black, white, male, or female. I agree that it's ironic to simultaneously believe that gays shouldn't be in the military, but that they should WANT to. I also find it ironic that these people claim to support their military, but only if it meets certain criteria. Not very American, is it?

Homos can do what they want, just dont ask for no special rights. Gen Pace made a comment and should be respected for his views. there is no reason for him to leave his position. he is experienced and trained and should not leave because some "queens" got hurt at a true statement
