The adjusted close data is posted as is the regular price. The differences between the adjusted close data and the stock price occurs the further you go back and is mainly due to adjusting for dividends/stock splits so you can compare across time how a stock has performed.

This is important, especially if you see a stock that has split over time. A stock last year at $50 that split and returned to $50 whould show an adjusted price of $25 last year since that's what each of today's share would be worth last year.
