NOPE!!!
You can never nurse an exclusively breastfed baby too much. If they don't want it, they won't take it and they can't over eat.
Like whats happening is he's preparing for a growth spurt, they get very hungry, cranky and nurse endlessly (sometimes enough to make you feel like you are losing your milk supply when you aren't)
The result 3-4 days of miserable baby, an inch or 3 of growth and an added few ounces to the baby's weight. Your suplly will all of a sudden seem abundant as well. Good luck. The first week or two of breastfeeding is the hardest, but after that the road bumps are usually alot smaller :)
here is are a couple of excellent sites, check through them.

I doubt a 1 week old is teething.

No, you can't nurse him too much. Breastfed babies are self regulating. Don't worry about that. Follow his cues and nurse when he wants to. You can't nurse too often. At this very young age, the more you nurse the better! Actually, if you are nursing every 3 hours, I'd tend to say you're not nursing enough! Breastmilk digests in about 90 minutes. Most newborns want and need to nurse about every 2 hours around the clock!

This is a great link that will help you understand what is normal at your baby's age -

Also, he's only a week old! Consider this.....for 9 months he was inside of you. He was never cold, never hungry, never had a need that wasn't met right away. He could see/hear/feel/taste/smell you every second of every day. Now, when he is not in contact with you, it's scary for him! He doesn't yet understand that you are two separate people. AND he doesn't understand that you still exhist if he can't sense you. The adjustment to "the outside world" is HUGE if you really think about it. This is probably the reason for some of his fussing. Being held is a true NEED right now and there is no way you can hold or nurse him too often.

Fussing/crying is how babies learn to COMMUNICATE. He is trying to communicate with you, NOT manipulate. Ignore the person who said not to pick him up. He's one week old for God's sake!

Enjoy your new baby!

No, you can't nurse too much. He's probably using you as his pacifier when he's fussing. Meaning he probably isn't eating the entire 30 min every single time, he's just using his sucking reflex on you instead of a paci. He gets some food, comfort...why not? Highly unlikely that he's teething this early though. You'll know when he is b/c he'll gnaw on his hands and drool non-stop-usually starts around 4 months. Good luck!

Nursing your baby is not only for nourishment but it is also fo comfort (like the pacifier). You will produce as much milk as he needs. You will soon get on a schedule and you will know when he fusses if he is hungry, wet, or just needs to be comforted. There is nothing wrong with what you are doing. Now if he was teething you would definately know cause he be using your nipple as a teether..lol I don't miss that.

No! He knows what he wants. I have 4 kids and can tell you from experience that every kid is different. Don't listen to any one but your baby. Remember milk flows more slowly with a breast than it does a bottle so he'll nurse longer and more often than he would if you gave him a bottle. Besides it is easier to digest so it goes through them quicker than formula. He's only a week old and you don't even make milk the first few days, just colostrum so he's probably pretty hungry. Also this is a new place to him maybe he just needs to be close to you to feel secure. What ever his reason is... He knows what he wants and you can't spoil him at a week old so give him whatever makes him happy.

Babies need to nurse whenever they feel hungry. Breast milk is so quickly digested that babies usually feed every 2 hours. Instead of feeding on a schedule, feed on demand. It will help your milk come in better and may cut down on the baby's fussiness. When the baby starts to fuss, try holding, rocking, changing, interacting with him instead of directly putting him on the breast. He may not need to eat, just needs some attention. I doubt that he is teething this early, but stranger things have happened. Good luck!

He's not teething. You are simply feeling to bones in his jaw and the hardened gums.

He might have gas. You can start some infant massage techniques on him to get the gas moved out. Look for a book at the library or find the technique for massage to relieve colic online. Be aware of what you are eating and drinking as some babies have a negative reaction to some foods and drinks -- especially caffeine and spicy food -- when they nurse.

The benefits of allowing the child to nurse solely for comfort is debatable. I nursed my son, but he also used a binkie occasionally. Young infants have a natural suckling need, which can be quelled by a binkie.

Good luck!

He's only a week old so even though he's feeding for 1/2 hour he's probably not getting lots. It will get easier as he gets older. Go with what he needs/wants at the moment. Avoid pacifiers at all costs -bad habit thats difficult to break!
Congrats on managing breast feeding!

quick answer is no!

Your milk is still coming in and adjusting, and he'll only eat as much as he wants. He's not teething at a week, at least not likely. Babies fuss. And you do what you can to soothe them and make them comfortable.

Not teething at 1 week old. If you're worried you're feeding him too much you should consult your doctor. Typically breastfed babies eat every two hours. You may want to hold of on the pacifier because it could cause him not to latch on, but if he doesn't seem to be having a problem then it should be fine.
