What possible career paths are there if I take psychology major? Does it earn enough/a lot of money? Are there too many people taking psychology nowadays (I live somewhere in South-East Asia if that helps)?

In addition, is it considered an "easy" major? 'Coz I notice that a lot of people who are not really intellectually inclined at school often opt for psychology... That kind of make me think twice in taking psychology. =/ (I mean, employers and society would think that you're just "average" too!) In your opinion then, do you think that it is a "prestigious" major like law/medicine, or is it just an easy way out?

I think it's a great idea. I also think you should train with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder. Over the next ten to twenty years we will need more people trained in counseling to deal with such things as the war in the middle east, the tsunami, and other major life alter events that come up.

Marriage counseling would be a great specialty also. Many of the same people that will have long term issues from PTSD will also carry those issues into their marriages causing problems.

I think if you were going to be a therapist of some kind seeing people on an outpatient basis then you would have be a very centered or grounded person. Otherwise you end up trying to save the world and also wind up taking other peoples problems home with you.
Working in a hospital would mean seeing people in some very acute situations and that can be disturbing.
Then there are the "corporate" psychologists such as those that work with police departments, marketing firms, and the such.
Anyway you look at it, psych can be a challenge. There are rewards certainly, you just have to be strong.

You can major in psychology and yes it's easy, but if you don't go any further with it than a 4 year degree, you've wasted alot of money and time. It's worthless by itself. Just like majoring in Political Science of History. You better not do it, unless you plan on using it as a stepping stone to a higher degree.

Yes it's a great career and major! I am getting my BA in 2 months. The only thing is that to do counseling on patients you will need to get at least a master's degree or higher. If you are willing to do that then you should be able to get paid well.
I would look in employment ads in your area to see the demand for psychologists to make sure there will be enough demand for you when you graduate.

Psychology is an important career choice because you will spend your lifetime helping others. No, it is not like being a lawyer but who cares? The important thing is choosing what you want to do. Do you have a passion about psychology? Do you feel passionate about another major? You need to pick what YOU want to do with your life and forget about other people.

I would GUESS that there is not much future in the field of psychology for the very reason that it is really exciting at this time. IMO whole branches are about to be thrown on the bonfire due to major breakthroughs.

It isn't all that easy first of all! I would ask yourself this. "Do you like to be around people? do people like to come to you naturally and talk about their troubles? I am not sure about South-East-Asia but there cannot be enough trained counselors,or therapists, or psychologists here in America!
