Iran is a newer and formal name for "Persia" and in this movie, Iranian has been shown as animals. Consider that Persian Emperator, Cyrus, wrote first "human right code" in history.

I don't understand your question.

Could they?

Well, yes, and many have insulted other peoples and nations (haven't see the movie you're talking about).

This has been going on as long as there have been books and movies.

Is it right?

No -- assuming what's said or implied is false.

Can it be stopped?

No. People have the right to create whatever fiction they want.

Is it wise?

No.

Is it consistent with democracy?

Well, with the law, yes; maybe not, in a sense, with the spirit -- in the sense that democratic values include the idea that all humans are human.

What could be done?

Let people know what the false claims are, and why they're false; discourage people from going to such movies (if it didn't pay, they wouldn't make them); protest.

Like Sway said..... and it's just a movie.

More so, it is based on actual events, granted to movie is over exaggerated, but we are talking about history that is hundreds of years old told from a time when they believed that gun powder was magic. I can't think of anyone who takes that movie literally, except the Iranians.

***************

I have to add that the Persian empire has since fallen and no Persian lives now. How are Iranians insulted by this movie when they aren't Persian, but Iranian? Sounds like a way just to keep trouble brewing. Divide and conquor. Spin till we're all dizzy.

Isn't 300 about Rome, the bloodiest and most violent civilization in human history.

O is it about greece, the civilization that was almost constantly at war?

Or was it Persia which was ruled by varying psychopaths?

All of histories nations that where considered the ones of wisdom and democracy had a violent and bloody past. If someone is offended by the truth, too bad.

In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC, an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae in central Greece. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the invader in one of history's most famous last stands.

This is a movie, not a documentary. But the battle did happen and is quite famous.

Actually the events in the movie are historical fact, perhaps modified somewhat for a movie, but they cannot be said to be insulting to any nation. Just because you don't like how historical events turn out is any reason to condemn the telling of the story.

Hmmm, let's get Mel Gibson to make a movie called "The Vengeance of the Prophet". Mohammad would speak Latin with Arabic subtitles.

What did you find "insulting" or "distorted" about the movie?

Since persia doesn't exists today, I doubt the producers are very worried.

Just like the "Da Vinci Code" - it is a work of historical FICTION. With elements drawn from history, but the actual story itself is fiction. It is not slander or insults - its a story.

I'd wager that the first tribe of people should be creditted with democracy. I think they made a ballot box and dropped sticks into it.

"300" is a comic book turned into a movie.

Myself, being a former Green Goblin, was offended by the movie "Spider-Man".
