A great way to get back into the work force is definatly temping but it is extremly important that you go back into the forece ready for the changes that have come about since you have been gone. Be sure to bone up on all the up[dated versions of any and all programs you where using when you left your old job. Do some research on whatever company you are going to be working at and see what kind of changes the company has gone through in the last few years.
Hope that helps.

Well it really depends on your field. I suggesting doing some volunteering if possible to get back into the swing of things. Volunteering looks great regardless, and if you volunteer in a place where you hope to eventually be employed then that's a good way in. Set a time frame for your job hunt. For example, say "I'm going to apply for jobs daily for 3 months." If you don't get hired by then, consider working somewhere below what you're qualified for, so you can get back in the working world. You might be lucky and get hired in your first month of job hunting, or it may be really difficult. It really depends on your field. Network. Get back in touch with previous employers, co-workers, friends, let them know you're looking. The old adage "it's not what you know, it's who you know" is very accurate in the job world. Just don't get discouraged, try for part-time employment if you can. As for working from home you could post ads in the local newspapers (like if you're a copy editor or whatever you can do from home). I'd have to know more about what your qualifications are, but pretty much you just have to take steps to re-emerge yourself in the working world. Good luck!

If you have a computer at home you could try offices that want their billing done. You probably should take a computer course to update your skills. My neighbor works a full time job outside of the home but does billing for her old employer and gets paid 25 cents a bill. Doesn't sound like a lot but they give her over 250 bills at one time and all it entails is data entry, name, address, phone and a few numbers. Good supplement to her income. Try transcription for a doctor's office. They have medical dictionaries that you can add to your computer's spell check in case you are not familiar with medical terminology. There are also transcription services that you can type at home for that come in and set you up with the Internet and a computer and pay insurance also.

Is there such a thing as childminders in the states? My mum became one because she didnt want to go back to work( as a teacher). Take in other kids after school or younger kids during school. In the UK they are regulated by the local councils, you need first aid training and a house inspection. its a really nice way to still earn some money, but be at home when your kids need you. my mum has now looked after over 60 kids and feels it was a great move. She has also never had 'empty nest' syndrome as she's always had babies around

Great question!
Best advice I ever received: buy or borrow from your local public library a couple of those great interviewing and job hunting books. There, you'll find from how to dress for an interview to even negotiate your pay! And it works! (regardless of your experience, education, etc.) Not a month will go by without you finding the job you've always wanted.
Congratulations and good look with your new journey!

Ugh. I'm in the same situation. No matter what we do, stay-at-home parents just don't look good on paper!
I've been trying to find a job since December without any success.
Good luck.

Put together a resume that has the specific job you want. Contact your former employers and look up companies in the yellow pages, call them and fax over your resume
