Fantastic question myself and my husband have said this for years, we should be proud of our heritage just like the Irish and Scottish with their national day, we do celebrate it but wouldn't it be great if the whole country stopped for the day and went wild and threw mad parties to celebrate the dragon slayer himself and giving us what we have today (or at least helping) we talk about him in schools during history so why not recognise him, you should start an on line petition and send it to number 10 ill willingly sign up as will many many people i know, you could be the one to change things and why not, you asked the question after all, go for it and again a fantastic question, best one all day. Yes, St. George's Day should be an English national holiday. You should, on that day, purge the House of Lords of every member who is not actually Engish or British (and there are a few peers who are neither). Also, the top officers of the Bank of London should be declared outlaw for the entire day.

Without a doubt it should become a Bank Holiday for England. I think that we are not proud enough of our country and I am sure that there will be people in England who will want to be P.C. and come up with it may offend minority groups living here. Who cares if they are huffed, I don't. Lets get the flags out and tell those bureaucrats that we are not interested in all the stupid regulations which have to be complied with before you can fly a flag anywhere. For example private cars and taxis etc not being allowed to have them attached to their motors. Lets celebrate it in style like St. Patricks Day is and come on the Welsh folks start shouting for your day too. Long Live St. George.

The so called St George is no more English than Patricia Hewitt so why should we have a holiday for some foreigner that probably never existed in the first place.

Yes it should BUT there will be someone who objects. It is an English celebration, and I am afraid that's doesn't seem acceptable nowadays. Like Christmas being banned etc.
