I am going to Vegas next New Years and I was wondering how much a cab is from the Strip to Gold Coast (the hotel I'm planning on staying at).

I know there's a shuttle between the Rio (next door to Gold Coast) and Harrah's, but I also know the shuttles are often crowded and I may be travelling otuside of the shuttle's hours of operation. I'm pretty sure it's about a 2 mile drive.

Also, has the Gold Coast been renovated recently? Anyone been there? I was in Vegas in the summer, but never made it there.

Thanks!

The Gold Coast has a free shuttle to the center of the strip, it runs about every 10 minutes from 9am until midnight. The CAT bus would cost you $1.25 from the strip to GC.

And as you were already informed the GC, renovated their rooms a couple of years ago and a nice feature are the large plasma screen TV's.

If you think the cabbie is "long hauling" you(cheating) call the TA - Taxicab authority 1-702-668-4000 - and do it before you pay or leave the cab!

You're right about the distance, two miles sounds about right. It would be one heck of a long walk from the strip to the GC.

The Gold Coast has one of the better slot clubs in LV> Cash back of .3% , when most return .1% or less, and it does not take a great deal of play to get free night offers. A couple of hours on a quarter video poker machine will do the trick, and the GC has very good VP(9/6 JOB - 99.54%)

Rio & the Palms have free hotel shuttles as well.

It's not a $12.50 cab ride from the Gold Coast to Bellagio(etc) It's $12.50 from Orleans to the airport.

We go to LV 2-3 times per year and stay for 2 weeks or more each time. We stay at the Orleans for 1 or 2 weeks each year and have since it opened. It's not a 20 minute wait for a shuttle from the Gold Coast to the strip, Coast runs three shuttles one runs from the Orleans to Bill's, one runs from the Gold Coast to Bill's and one runs a circle route from Orleans to GC to Bills. The one that runs the circle route takes about 30 minutes, the Orleans to Bills runs about every 20 minutes from the Orleans, the one that runs back and forth from GC to Bill's takes maybe 15 minutes, depending on traffic>(it''s just a little over 1 mile) So that's four times per hour for the GC to Bill's and twice per hour for the circle route shuttle, that comes out to about once every 10 minutes.

I would think there would still be transportation even on NY Eve, the cabs could still pick up at the lower level valet, Forum Shops Caesars Palace and leave via the back entrance. I think Industrial is the street that runs behind(West of) Caesars - Mirage - TI Etc

I have been going to LV since 67 and for the past 20 odd years have spent 4-6 weeks there but this year is the first time that I will be in LV for New Years. I had it booked last year at the LV Hilton but things fell through and we had to go earlier in the month(5th - 19th). I'm sure things will change as we get comp room offers from the three other hotels we play at, but we are booked at the Gold Coast from the 16th-26th(10 nights - $224 total) our host at Main Street Station has already comped us for the 28th - 1st and we are dead set on going this year. We just need to fill in the 27th & 28th which should be very easy. It's going to be a heck of a party and I can't wait, just not sure if we are going to try and make the strip on New Year's Eve or stay downtown> "Maybe both"

The Gold Coast has a free shuttle bus to the strip every 20 minutes or so until 12.30am The 202 city bus leaves across the street at the Palms every 15 minutes of so. A cab to Bellagio, Caesars Palace or Flamingo on the Strip costs $7 + tip.

The walk to the strip is just under a mile; 0.8 of a mile to be exact to the Bellagio or Caesars Palace.

Regarding Gold Coast; I stayed there at the end of January for a week. Really, nice, friendly, clean hotel. Awesome value at about $40 a night during the week and about $90 on Fridays and Saturdays. The hotel is great if uninspired (you wont find dancing fountains or exploding volcanos here). The clientele are usually people in their 40s and locals intent more on gambling than nightclubbing or shopping etc. rooms have been recently renovated yes, each standard room now contains a 32" plasma tv and suites each with their own 45" plasma screens.

The pool is rather on the small side but overall I would wholeheartedly recommend you to stay in the Gold Coast and save extra money for other things. No point in my opinion paying over the top prices for similiar accommodation on the Strip

I work at the Gold Coast, it is a great place.....
It will only cost you about $12.50 to get to the strip, you could even walk it if its nice outside! You might have to walk it back if you want to get back to the hotel before dawn, the strip is closed to all traffic on New Years!
The Gold Coast was remodeled about 3 years ago, we have new restaraunts, a great buffet, and the most awesome bar staff you could meet! (can you guess what department I work in/)

I can't speak of all cab drivers in Las Vegas but we had two different drivers before we picked up our rental car. The first was great, great conversation, polite, and drove us directly to our destination. I can't remember how much he charged, but we gave him $20. The second driver was a freak, he took us on a "short cut", it cost us twice that of the first driver. So we gave him exactly what he charged, no tip! So be careful. Also it will be New Year's Eve, and cabs will probably be more expensive on that holiday especially. Please travel in a group (not to sound like your mother or anything), it's definitely safer. Take care, and enjoy your trip.

I was just in Vegas, and made my way to Old Vegas, Gold Coast is fine, HOWEVER the quality of people that stay there, and the elements leave alot to be desired. Spend the extra 50 bucks and stay at the MGM
