--Genesis 1--clearly supports your thought of dominion over the earth and animals --ABSOLUTELY nothing near the dominance of human rule over men was given to Adam!

--It is indeed not what God purposed--And indeed was not his making.

--THIS WAS THE SCENARIO back from Adam to Samuel the Prophet , that indeed was greatly beneficial to men:

Youngs Literal Translation:
----Isaiah 33: 22 " For Jehovah our judge, Jehovah our lawgiver, Jehovah our king -- He doth save us".

--Please note when the Israelites had God as King AND what they demanded and the results

1 Sam. 8 (Youngs Literal Translation)

1And it cometh to pass, when Samuel [is] aged, that he maketh his sons judges over Israel.......
3and his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.
4And all the elders of Israel gather themselves together, and come in unto Samuel to Ramath,

5and say unto him, `Lo, thou hast become aged, and thy sons have not walked in thy ways; now, appoint to us a king, to judge us, like all the nations.'
6And the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel, when they have said, `Give to us a king to judge us;' and Samuel prayeth unto Jehovah.
7And Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Hearken to the voice of the people, to all that they say unto thee, for thee they have not rejected, but Me they have rejected, from reigning over them. 8According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods -- so they are doing also to thee.

9And now, hearken to their voice; only, surely thou dost certainly protest to them, and hast declared to them the custom of the king who doth reign over them.'

-----THE WARNINGS WERE EMINENT

10And Samuel speaketh all the words of Jehovah unto the people who are asking from him a king,
11and saith, `This is the custom of the king who doth reign over you: Your sons he doth take, and hath appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;
12also to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer.
13`And your daughters he doth take for perfumers, and for cooks, and for bakers;
14and your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards -- the best -- he doth take, and hath given to his servants. ..............

SO THEN--the dire consequences for rejecting God were devastating back then & in todays POLITICAL WORLD being horrendous:

Ecclesiastes 8:9 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

9 "All this I have seen, applying my mind to all the work that is done under the sun, at a time when one man has authority over another to his harm."
"
--AS FAR AS the ultimate sin--I think the principles of the first 4 Commandments (Ex. 20:2-7) having to do with direct worship-- especially supercedes the matter of relative human rulership. as far as ultimate sins. ALSO the rejection of Christ Jesus as the Son of Jehovah, The Messiah, The Ransomer etc. is a major contempt to the Almighties face & to Christs.

AS FOR WHY humans like to dominate 2 WORDS in my opinion that combine so well together POWER & IMPORTANCE, one alone can be bad enough but the two melding have caused thousands of years of heartache.

im glad someone mentioned Global warming;
There are others too- sunamies,weather and natural disasters; cancer and broken-necks-the list goes on.

So there is much still to do-and this contrasts well with
"dominion over another man(men too)". For unfortunately
law and Order still does not reign-supreme,and the vast
difference between peaceful countries and non is a failure.

And its a failure of some governments,hence of some men
(and women). And its likely that its a failure of some men-of-
faith too; Peaceful order is neccessary for man,there is no
other reasonable way,this is what man strives for and not
some far-fetched domination-over-others(and peace can lead to work and cooperation,trade and enrichment of
people and cultures).

I don't believe that humans have dominion over anything. It's wrong to assume that we do. Every being on this earth be it plant or animal has a right to live. Assuming that you can allow or take life on a whim is like pretending to be God. And I'm sure that has to be a sin. All we are doing is destroying this planet. Mother earth does seem to be a little upset lately, wouldn't you say? (katrina, tsunami, tornadoes in the south, earthquakes, forest fires, etc....)

Not 100% true.... man has the capability to dominate over almost everything. However, Locke mentioned the ability and rational of man giving up certain rights, freedom rights to a government, a figure, in exchange of a secure and beneficial society.

True, man wants power over man, and man has the power to dominate over other man with physical advantages, psychosocial, schemes, etc., but because man has the ability to rationalize we don't allow ourselves to be dominated, thus many bloody wars over the years. This is why we say all men are created equal, we all have the sense and rationalyze to the same basic rights of life.

I think your spelling is the ultimate sin.

But I don't think man has been given "dominon" over nature. Look at the tsunamis and hurricanes of the last 3 years.

human slavery has been around since the beginning of humans in large numbers.
It is even there in the workplace where one person gets to be the boss and make others do what they want.
Even though you are getting paid, you are just being able to pay for your own food and board whee slavery you get those things for free.
To not be a slave today, you must not work for another person.
To not be a slave in older times, you had to be on the winning side or the stronger side as people punished other groups in warfare by taking slaves since they didnt have gold and booty.

People were much poorer in the past than they are now.

Even nowadays, people submit to slavery willingly because they wish to be given a home to live in but they have nothing to pay for it with except their life or manpower.

Nowadays, the slavery takes place in more subtle ways tho.

Companies who hire you to work for no one else but them, and contracts that bind a person for long periods.

What about women who chose to marry and be with an abusive husband because they cant find work and feed themselves?

Life is so much more complex than this.

I dont think that slavery is a sin per se. It was needed in the past for both parties and its still needed.

I think that treating people badly or poorly, is the sin.

All sins are equal in God's eyes. Not one brings more severe punnishment than the other. Man tries to control man in many ways. There's verbal, physical, mental, emotional, & probably other forms of abuse stemming from one trying to control another. Why is this? I'm not sure other than the one trying to gain control is either good at heart to keep peace & order, or they're power-trippers.

As it is some people feel this now and many others suffer from it. No one person is one little bit more significant then the next, thanks to God.
