We are planning on purchasing Visual Studio 2005, but if the next release will be soon, we may change our strategy. Thanks.

The next release of Visual Studio, currently named 'Orcas', has already had features released in Beta version. There have been 4 or 5 Community Technology Preview (CTP) releases for this version, which is to integrate better with Vista and Office 2007. I don't find a hard release date for the full version.

Yeah, Orcas is in development and it appears to be finishing its development cycle. I would venture that MS will have it ready in 2008, but don't plan on it. In the meantime, why not play around with VB.net Express? Many features are included in the Express Edition, but there are a few small minor differences, and you can use it for commercial applications.
