Observing the rules given in the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, the Committee does not publish the names of candidates.

The announcement of the laureate's name is not made on a fixed date, but is often made on a Friday in mid-October. The announcement takes place in the Nobel Institute building and has become a major news event. The Peace Prize is awarded annually on 10 December, the day on which Alfred Nobel died in 1896.

There is a committee of 5 who decides the winner from among the nominees.

Nominators include
o- members of national assemblies and governments;
o- members of international courts of law;
o- university chancellors; university professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology;
o- leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs;
o- former Nobel Peace Prize laureates;
o- board members of organisations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize;
o- present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel
