Go for Loop/Grant Park or North Michigan Ave/River North: those are closer to the happenin' places and within a (long) walk of Wrigley Field.
Other great stuff in Chicago: Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Soldier Field, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art, Nike Store on Michigan Avenue (just go shopping and window shopping there...terrific), Grant Park, Navy Pier, the architectural tours via boat, the Billygoat Tavern ('Cheeseburger! Cheeseburger! Cheeseburger!), Gino's East, Old Town...have a blast!
More stuff: Science and Industry Museum, U of Chicago Circle Campus in Hyde Park (where the Frank Lloyd Wright houses are), Bahai Temple, the El, the Sears Tower (which Sears no longer owns), the John Hancock Building, the Water Tower, Oak Street Beach, Rush Street, Halsted Street, the Shubert Theater and Civic Opera House, Orchestra Hall.

Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, South loop, River north are all constructive components, some could be somewhat expensive. (actual, components of River north could be somewhat iffy.) i does no longer advise living in Hyde Park until you're moving right here to be on the Univ. Chicago. it might desire to be risk-free interior some blocks, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it is surrounded via an fairly severe crime-fee section. in addition to, it rather is rather a techniques from each and every thing else. no person will ever bypass to you. And Chinatown isn't precisely the main secure section the two.

Great downtown area is around division and rush, there is an ambassodor hotel but it is fairly expensive. I'm sure there are others, but if you want a nice area with a good night life you will want to be near Division (a road) and around the lake. North Michigan Ave is great.
