Think critically please. What is your opinion on the concept of patriotism? The idea that countries are quantifiable and/or better than each other. Is this contrary to the notion of all men being equal or are they both compatible? Are people better than one another? If one holds similar views about a race or religion that person would be called a supremacist, racist, or close-minded. On the other hand it could be viewed as someone supporting a sports team or a particular brand over another. In this respect should everyone love their country? Is it traitorous not to do so? How do you feel about it?

To be patriotic to one's country does not mean that particular country is better than others. It simply means that as a person you hold your own country in the highest esteem. If one feels that another country is better than the one of your birthright then there is the option to move to another country of your choice and apply for citizenship there.
If one holds that same view regarding race then it most likely would be viewed by others as a racist point of view. However, depending upon the person it does not necessarily have to be racist.
Sport fans almost always choose one team over another. There are some people that become angry over that as well!
I think people were created as equals no matter what. It is the actions of people that separate who is the better person. For instance I think that people who do not commit crimes are better than people who do.
Everyone should love their own country. That does not mean that another country cannot be held in high esteem. Again, it also depends upon the actions of that country as to how much respect anyone should have towards it.

My opinion of patriotism...

Well, I don't think of it as one country being better than another...I think of it more like a group of people coming together to create a set of laws and instructions that THEY believe in. If you believe in, and want to follow, their rules, you JOIN the country. I think it is inevitable that people would be proud of, and love, their country, so long as the leaders of the country give the people what they've asked for as far as laws, rules, and if that country is prospering.

Patriotism, then, would be the pride and love that you have for a country that brings people of similar ideals together. By that aspect, people lose patriotism when the leaders of the country are not completing those ideals set forth and agreed upon.

People are not better than one another, different people just want different things, so they set up different nations to achieve those things. Wars come from one group wanting something that the other is unwilling (for whatever reason) to give in on. Talks ensue, tempers are riled, then one rogue group from one country throws the stone, so to speak. Retaliation, instead of communication, follows, and then 500 years later, both sides hate each other, but only because "THEY won't get over it".
