to keep poluting the planet as much as they like. It's the working class who won't be able to afford holidays abroad and will struggle to pay the costs of just going to work.
We need a system that will penalise rich high polluters who won't give a damm about the environment, as long as they have the money not to care.

It should be that the 'Green' taxes will only come into force once you've exceeded your carbon quota. So you can drive so many miles per year, and have a holiday, and leave the TV on standby once in a while, but once you've passed your limit - then you'll get taxed.

When you start paying carbon taxes make sure you keep all of your bills and receipts so that in 30 years time when the scientists admit that CO2 was not the cause of global warming - you can get a rebate.

Actuall, percentage wise it's the middle classes that earn between £50-£75k a year that are paying most taxes in any shape or form.
On the minimuum wage your National Insurance contribution used to be about 4.5%. Someone earning £25k a year would pay about 5-6% of their income on National Insurance contributions. Someone in the £50-£70K salary range paid a whopping 11% of their income in National Insurance contributions. These percentages are a few years old though.
Couple of months ago there was a program on radio 4. taking Totteridge, in North London as an example, they calculated that those with houses in the £1million+ price bracket paid considerably less council tax than they would do if the old poll tax or rates was to still be around. Some examples they gave from archived records with actual amounts as they were at the time compared to now showed that some of those in £1million+ houses pay in some cases less by £8k in the highest case. So where the average council tax in that bracket is now a few £1000's it would be an average of £6-7k.
I think the middle classes suffer just as much as the working classes in a way. Probably only those with the £100k+ wages are better off.
The system is there to keep those in power where they are. Britain is a class society. As long as that is taken lightly by the general British public the ruling classes will always be able to set up one class against another. Whilst the rulers enrich themselves through legtislation that ultimately has it's roots in times when they thought the Sun goes around the Earth.
Makes me laugh. And ultimately glad not to be British :-)

Actually they already are a tax on everyone, since everyone has to pay for them.

Your assumption that the rich pollute more is a wild generalisation - it could just as well be said that the poor do more littering, but that is not the way in which taxes are calculated, because committing such broad generalisations to law is a bad precedent to set - as is assuming that there is a hard-and-fast class system in this country any more.

Of course it is. The whole global warming as man made fantasy is all about higher taxes, more government control, and less personal liberties. No one not even those so and so rich folks should be penalized for having a life they can afford. Look at the people who are promoting this garbage, they are the same tax and spend socialists who have had their hands in your pockets for decades. Most people were born with a brain and it saddens me to see so many of them fall for this idiocy

The Liberals don't care. None of them are hard-working, middle class people anyway. As long as they satisfy their agenda, they could care less about us.
