The Leafs will win another Stanley Cup when they place their focus on developing a core of outstanding players and cleaning up their farm system. I do not understand how a team with so much hype and publicity always seems to struggle. The Leafs haven't developed their own star players since the days of Bjorle Salming and Darryl Sittler (don't try to sell me on Felix Potvin, Wendel Clark, and the like). Every other NHL team has developed at least two superstars in the last 25 years (especially if you want to count Marion Gaborik and Niklas Backstrom in Minnesota, Rick Nash and Nikolai Zherdev in Columbus, and Scott Hartnell and David Legwand in Nashville), while the Leafs haven't even come close to that. Some teams have developed legends, and the Leafs have the likes of Matt Stajan, Alex Steen, Nik Antropov, Carlo Coliaccovo, and Tomas Kaberle to show off ther "extraordinary" player development acumen. This is why, it will be a long time before Toronto will celebrate a Stanley Cup victory (yet sell out home game after home game while other teams excell).

First of all the Jays tinkered with their home grown talent, made great trades and added in some veterans at the deadline; they didn't buy a team, in either year to win and they were making tons of dough, the Skydome was packed every night.
The Leafs can't buy a team in the new salary cap era. If they win it will be with a GM who understands the new NHL structure, is a shrewd negotiator and a great assessor of talent. They may also get a few breaks from vets like Peca and Tucker who wanna play in TO and wanna see a cup win there. If the Leafs fire JF asap they could be there in a couple of years with a great GM or it could go on and on, just like the Blackhawk's slump, which is longer and the Bruin's which is almost as long.

Oh come on people !!!...if Carolina can win it .. lol
I think the Leafs have made some good moves to becoming contenders ,but one mistake remains ..the GM.(sorry John)
I believe that they have about as much chance at the cup as any team in the Eastern conference ..There are a few points dividing 3rd and 7th ..come on !! Leafs can do it ! I strongly believe that!

ill have to say you will see them win after Sundin retires. They have a good team but they need a few years to build and fing a great new franchise player. We need more goals and a better goalie in the crease. They are my favorite team so i am obligated to say every year for the next millenium ( they will never lose again)

Never. Oh, say in 20 years. That is not their objective. It is merelt to fill the seats and make money which they do win or lose. The stadium ACC is always full and the ticket prices are astonomical. But, people, foolish people, still pay and pay no matter what the price. Something I do not understand.
