Depends on the reason.

If it was, "No, we are not in a place (financially, logistically, etc) where marriage is possible, but when we are, then you are the person I want to be with.", I might be able to live with that.

If it was, "Listen, I like you a lot, but we've only been together three weeks. Let's slow down a little.", I could probably live with that, too.

However, if she could not have come up with a decent reason, I would assume that she wasn't interested and would have to seriously consider my other options.

I said no twice, and yet he still asked a third time. That time, I said yes. We knew we wanted to be together, I just didn't think marraige was necessary. I realized finally, that he felt very serious about the whole process and it would make him feel more accomplished in our relationship, so I accepted. I'm glad I did. I think when I said no, the first time, he was confused...the second time, it crushed him, if I had said no the third, I think he would have left me.

Who wouldnt have taken this hard? I mean if you love someone enough to propose it will hurt alot, and if it doesnt you dont have a heart. I am not married, but I know how it would feel.

You need to find out why there is a no. Has something happened recently? Does she not want too because of being afraid? There is more to this question there has to be a reason.

Well, if my hubby had said no when I proposed, we wouldn't be married now.

I would've been very hurt, and would've tried to understand, but it probably would've ended the relationship.

This may seem harsh to some but I would have ended the relationship immediately and moved on.

My first attempt brought forth laughter and an are you kidding response. I thought so too, upon further review. So I didn't do it again. It was amusing though.

i guess that's why a couple should somewhat talk about marriage and the guy get a feel if his partner is interested in marrying him

Actually, in our case, we discussed it and agreed to get married. It wasn't like on my knee putting ring on finger thing.
