I was looking at buying a record player for my husband. The brand is "olympic bsr" found it at a store but it has no needle for the turntable. How much would it be to buy a needle and do i need to look for a specific type of needle or are they all the same? It plays 78, 45, and 33 if that makes a difference! As you can tell I don't know much about record players!! I dont even know if Olympic is a good brand :\ If you have any advice that would be GREAT! Thanks a ton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, Not all turntables are the same. Basicly there are two types of needles used. Magnetic and none magnetic cartridges are used. And which ever cartridge you have tells you what kind of needle to replace in it. And the cartdrige is what the needle actualy fits in on the end of the toner arm. Bsr use to use magnetic cartridges but there have been alot of changes since the good old days. They may not be magnetic anymore. The last time i needed to find a needle for both kinds of cartridges i ended up at Radio Shack and they still had what i needed. but that was 10 or 15 yrs ago. And the only reason i have not needed to get another one is because if you take care of them they will last a long time.

Different needles for different stereo's. Some of them are compatable with others; check the 'net for needles.

IS ONE; btw, BSR is the manufacturer, and a pretty decent if not great one.

Alos; make sure the cartridge (the thing the needle attaches to) is there, and not just the needle is missing. (Should have 2-4 wires hooked to it)

its the record that determins the needle not the player. 33 1/3 and 45 rpm records use a finer needle than 78 rpm.
