When is the best time to take birthing classes?

My girlfriend is only 12 weeks but we were wondering when is the best time to start birthing classes?

I have a one-time childbirth class tomorrow. (I'm not doing Lamaze or anything like that.) I'm 33 1/2 weeks along. The class is just supposed to go over the phases of childbirth, pain relief options, etc. They also give a tour of the hospital and help you pre-register. If that's the kind of class you are talking about, probably not until a month or so before she is due. My hospital recommends it between 32-36 weeks, so if you deliver early you've already had the class.

If you are taking Lamaze or some other extended class, I think those last a few months. You'd have to see how long they are, but I think you sign up for them around 6-7 months or so.

Good luck with your new little one! Your girlfriend is lucky to have someone willing and able to be so involved.

I took them this last weekend I was 32 weeks and 4 days. I think it's the best time just in case you go into labor early. I also noticed about half the class was due about the same time but the other half had months to go I think it's too early before you 7th month. Good luck!

Around 7 or 8 months. It gives you time. I only took 1 class of Labor and 1 class of Breastfeeding. But it's really up to you. My Labor class was 7 months pregnant for me and the Breastfeeding class was 8 months pregnant. Just depends.

Towards the end of your pregnancy, like in the 7th month. Just in case you deliver early, you will have taken the classes and hopefully be prepared.
