Most people would be surprised to know that it does take a lot to sell cosmetics. I have been selling them at Macy's since i was 16 and i never thought that i would be doing the things i have had to do. First of all i had to get interviewed by three different managers. They also tested me to see if i even had the personality to sell cosmetics by taking a test. After i got hired i had to go and spend three 10 hour days in training. Once i was put on the sales floor i had to invite everyone and anyone to have a consultation with me and sell, sell, sell. You have to monitor your sales goal for the day and each hour make sure you know how far away you are from your goal because after all your review is on your sales. I also had the stand in the aisle and grab people and offer them a free make-over. Depending on the company you work for you also have to pre-sell for upcoming gifts or promotions which involves calling people (pretty much telemarketing) and secure their sale. There is much more work involved than i can write about just know its not easy.

Are you asking what it takes to sell cosmetics? There are several direct sales cosmetic companies. I'd be happy to answer any questions about becoming a Mary Kay consultant. Just message me.

to sell cosmetics, there are 2 main things you should keep consistent:
-a large network. to sell anything you first need customers, and in cosmetics its really important to have a large network of friends and neighbors that branch off into many different people. tell your friends, tell them to tell their friends, give catalogs, go to parties. even neighbors, or going door to door to give catalogs and contact information can be very helpful. more is always better!
-samples. with so many cosmetic products out there, theyre pretty much all the same. people have certain things that they use consistently, because thats what they like. when you get people to try your products, if you are selling something of quality they will usually like it and buy. spa parties are common, which allow the seller to have friends and friends' friends over to try samples of different products at the seller's expense. ofcourse you will have order forms and cards w/ contact info on them to give. also, when you have a chance to give a gift, a gift bag of some favorite cosmetic items can be given. when someone uses the products, they may like them and want to buy the same thing or something different.
and remember, a good salesperson is always straightforward, persuading, confident in their product, friendly and SMART about it. be all of those things, keep the above 2 main ingredients consistent, and you will be in business!!
good luck=]
