NO. For one it's a stupid argument because a baseball, Hockey, NFL, Racing fight happens well away from the fans. The NBA charges fans a premium to sit courtside, and they have had brawls in consecutive years that carried over into the stands. They can't have their cake and eat it to. If they want to continue raking in dollars for the expensive seats near the court then the players must be willing to control their emotions or at least keep it on the court.
Also when you see Artest charging fans, and Anthony throwing sucker punches what do you expect for people to say. And some players in the NBA do play up the thug life image. Which is one of the reasons you can't find an NBA game on any of the non-cable mainstream stations anymore.
I just wish the pro athletes would let the street criminals worry about portraying the thug image. When you have 10 million in the bank why do you need to look like a gangster? Only gang members should worry with that not rappers and pro athletes that don't sell drugs to support theirselves.

It's not racist at all, and there are plenty of white guys that have gotten suspended. Look at Bill Laimbeer. That guy was getting suspended for fighting left and right. The truth is, some of the NBA players have that thug mentality. Take Ron Artest. Do you think Tim Duncan would have charged the stands and started punching fans if someone threw a beer on him. No, he wouldn't. Then you've got Ron Artest trying to be a rapper with his music label, Tru Warrior. And Allen Iverson trying to be a gangsta rapper. You don't see and hockey or baseball players rapping about shooting people and sh*t like that. They've given themselves that label.

Fights in the NBA didn't bring about the thug/criminal label until Ron Artest assaulted a fan during a game. I am sure we all remember it. The league is still dealing with that issue. Like it or not the label was brought upon the league the moment that brawl happened.

You can't put the NHL on this list, cuz that crazy sport is played full contact and rough all the time. Good point on the MLB, I guess its the president and associations choice. Stern is a big pushover. Someone maks a comment about the way a player dresses and , poof , a dress code is enforced. I can't really say its racist cuz there are African American and Latino Americans in baseball, but it's true, the majority of fights in the MLB are white dudes, as in NHL. So, maybe it is a little bite, but its more the president of the sport and what he sees fit.

You bring up a good point. Its these sport radio and television shows that refer to NBA players as thugs. But when to NHL and MLB they tend to laugh it off. Someone brought up the comment about Tim Duncan wouldn't fight if someone hit him with a beer. For the record, I could walk up and slap Tim in the face in front of his children, because he's a punk.
A.I. and Ron Artest would put up with that and shouldn't. That just shows the cultural differences among black folks if you throw a drink or spit in our faces that's the same as throwing a punch. Only whites were surprised that Artest went up in the stands. I don't know to many black folks who would've just took that.

In all my years of watching sports, I've never seen a more thug-like act than last week, in hockey. That isn't part of the game. And you have a point - if a similar incident happened in the NBA, you would be hearing the word "thug" a lot.

The NBA fans are right on the court unlike any other sport so there is a higher chance a fan could get hurt. And what is so wrong with a league who wants to cut down on fighting.

The public seems to thrive on this and condone it. I once went to a prize fight and a hockey game broke out.
Most of the jocks in my estimation are only about two steps out of the tree and make me wonder if Darwin was right after all. The fights are one reason why I don't like pro sports.

Violence is a part of the NHL and it always will be. I remember back in the 60's the players would routinely retaliate with their sticks for any transgression. Frankly, most Americans identify with the hard-working, modest hockey players than the gangsta-influenced, multi-tattoed, arrogant, loudmouthed black men who play basketball. That's just the demographics of this country, it is not racism.

They bring on themselves by the way some of them act, dress and run up into the stands for fights or giving the crowd the bird after leaving the court! I do not see a lot of baseball or hockey players shooting there guns of in public either! So there I don't think there is any racism!
