If they're a good doctor, they'll explain the procedure before it happens, and will sometimes narrate what's going on while it's happening.
You'll be wearing a hospital gown, usually, with a blanket across your lap. You lay back with your feet in the stirrups, the Dr will insert the speculum and click it open. It's not as bad as it sounds, it's more strange than anything else. Then the Dr will do his/her business, I think they use a large Qtip type thing to swab the inside. It's a little uncomfortable, I won't lie. Mine hurt, which in some women is normal, and I felt like I had mild cramps for the next few days. Again, normal, and not incredibly painful, just uncomfortable. Relax as much as possible and you'll be fine.
Afterward, they remove the speculum and usually check with their fingers to be sure things are in their proper places. The whole thing took about ten minutes (I believe, I couldn't find a clock) and is suprisingly not embarassing.
I've never had a breast exam. I've heard various things, depends on whether its a mammogram or just checking with hands, or whatever. Mammograms can hurt, but none of this will kill you and you won't have to do it again for a long time.
If you're uncomfortable with anything at any point in the process speak up. They won't know something's wrong unless you tell them. If you really want to, take a friend (who can stand by your HEAD and hold your hand). That's what I did!

Keep in mind that each office does things a little different but here is some what of a idea of what to expect.
They call you back 1st they usually check your abdominal (press around on your belly) to see if they feel anything abnormal. Then yes they give you a breast exam (by hand) and that's just them feeling around your breast for lumps (something that you should do anyway). Then they move on to the pap test. They use a instrument that kind of looks like salad tongs (they maybe plastic or medal). They use this to hold you open while performing the exam. They use this thing that some what looks like a giant q-tip and go around your (you know what) walls and then send them off to the lab for test to make sure you don't have any abnormalities (like cervical cancer or STD's). Then they usually do something like a finger test where they press down on your belly and place 1 or 2 finger in your(you know what) to make sure things are in line down there. Oh and some places also do blood test to check for HIV/AIDS, pregnancy, and other STD's. Some STD's are tested in the swabbing of your (you know what) walls but other have to be done by blood test.
but to answer your question. I wouldn't say that it hurts. It's more of a uncomfortable feeling but it will be over before you know it.
Good Luck!!

Well if you are still a vigin, let them know, they will be more gentle, and relax! The more relaxed you are the less tense your muscles and it will not hurt, just maybe a little bit of discomfort. If you have had sex your muscles will be looser down there and you shouldn't have any pain. Either or, just relax, don't be nervous. No woman likes these, but you get in and out and its done for a year, good luck ! As far as the breast exam, the doctor will just feel around your breat region for any lumps it takes about 30 seconds and its over, nothing uncomfortable

Take a book to read and relax, you will do fine. The instruments can be cold and a pap can be uncomfortable, but if you are nervous have your doctor talk you through everything he/she is doing. This way there are no surprises. A breast exam is the same as a self exam only your doctor does it.

It doesn't hurt it feels weird and the tools are cold. The most important thing is to relax while they are inserting the tool and you should be fine. A breast exam is nothing, they do an exam like you should be doing at home and then it is over. I was more nervous the first few times because I was going to only have on a gown and the Dr. having to expose me, I didn't like and the room was cold. You relax and wear warm socks and you will do great.

pap smears do not hurt, but they are uncomfortable as the Dr. has to spread you apart using an instrument, I forget what it's called. It doesn't hurt though and is very important to your health. A breast exam just means the doctor will feel around on your breasts for any kind of lump or anything unusual. It doesn't hurt at all either, but is usually just embarrassing as the doctor has his hands all over your breasts. The doctor is always very professional about it, but if that's an issue for you, go to a female gynecologist next time, but I find that men are more gentle gynecologists.

okay, first of all relax, it will be uncomfortable, but not painful. if it hurts there is something wrong. First thing, they are going to ask about your medical history, they will ask if you are having sex, if you have ever taken drugs, family history, if you've ever been raped, ect,ect then they will give you a paper robe and tell you to go to the bathroom and put it on. you will lay down on a table and put your feet in stirrups. so your legs will be spread. then your ob will take a clamp thing that opens up the walls. they will take a swab of the inner walls to check for cancer. they'll feel with a finger to see if your uterous is swollen, and will run fingertips over your breast to feel for lumps your arm will be over your head to strech out and give better access to deeper tissue. and thats pretty much all i remember. look i've had them since i was thirteen, i'm nineteen now, so it's really no big deal. the only thing that stands out in my memory is that the clamp thing is COLD. but you'll have to stay relaxed despite it. it'll be fine.
