You need to read this article titled "Don't let baby sleep in carseat--warning" http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20893036-23109,00.html
The angle that the baby's head is at can lead to lower oxygen levels.

When my first child had a cold at about 8 weeks of age, my pediatrician suggested letting her sleep in her removable carseat to keep her head elevated. I can't believe a doctor would suggest something that would be harmful. Of course you need to be careful where you sit those carseats. Don't want it to topple off a table, etc. I also had good luck (for a short time) using a blanket to swaddle and then with the pads that keep them on their side. It seems to help them feel safe.

It is my sincere impression that your baby might be suffering from acid reflux.

AR babies cannot lay flat on their backs without stomach acid coming up into their throat. It hurts them, and tastes terrible. Consider yourself lucky that you have discovered this...now you can fix the problem.

1. Keep your daughter sitting up for at least 30 minutes after you feed her.

2. Buy a vibrating bouncer seat, and let your daughter sleep in that during the day.

3. Get a wedge for her crib, or put the crib legs up on blocks on one end, so that she is up at an angle. (make sure she doesn't roll down the bed while sleeping though).

4. Use Dr. Browns bottles (it helps with gas), and burp your baby after each 2 oz of formula she drinks.

5. Add 1T of gerber single grain rice cereal to each 2 oz of prepared formula. (we use similac advance with iron, or the walmart parents choice equivalent).

6. Don't bother with acid reflux meds.

If you follow these rules religiously, she will get better. If you don't, it will get worse and worse, and will be harder to treat when she is a little older.

My son did that. That was the only way to get him to sleep for a long period of time. I think he did it because it felt like he was being held. He also had acid reflux and that help him alot to stay sitting up. Every baby is diff rent, whatever way you can get it to sleep the better for you and the baby. He got to the point after he slept in the car seat for a while I could pick him up and lay him in his crib. One night he slept 12 hours straight in it and ever since then he can sleep through the night.Good luck!!

With an infant you do what you have to do to get some sleep! My son also slept in his carseat for awhile. I tried to put him down in his bassinet or crib during daytime naps and then I let him stay in the carseat at night, since I needed to sleep too. He didn't nap well but I didn't want him to get too used to sleep in the carseat.

You'll find once she gets bigger it won't be as comfortable for her to sleep in the carseat and she'll want to spread out.

Oh, and I put his carseat right into the crib at night. He was still in the same place - just felt more secure. So when he woke up he wouldn't get spoiled and be wherever we were all the time. :)

Take Care,
SD

I work in a day care and there is 2 out of 15 babies who especially love eating and sleeping in their carseats. I dont know why but the paretns say its okay or of course we wouldnt do it. But to me just looks liek its comfortable for them.

You've discovered a "mom trick" that is now being declared unsafe. I did it with my kids (before there were news stories warning parents about getting tangled in the straps). I had a three-point harness, and I always made sure that the straps were out of the way, tucked behind the sunshade. Make sure baby always sleeps on the floor, not on the table!

talk to your pediatrician...but if your baby is completely healthy, most of the time there is not a problem. Hey and if she sleeps..whatever it takes! Some babies feel comfortable in their carseat because it makes them feel secure..try getting her in that angel in her crib- with a swaddle blanket. It is a "swaddler" and you wrap them in it that way they feel very secure and will sleep more calmly. Congratulations on her sleeping though!

It's not dangerous but you have to remember she will soon be too big for the car seat ,so if you continue to allow her to sleep there then she will become attached. I say put the car seat up sometimes out of view and let her fall asleep and if she cries then let her cry.....Wing it slowly. Don't take it away completely she might dispise you for it, besides it is her favorite place right ? and you don't want to take that away from her.

my baby is 8 weeks old and will not sleep at night unless he is in a car seat. I talked to his Dr and she said its fine. He has acid reflux and so she said its even benificial for him to sleep that way.
