My "door ajar" light is coming on, with the consequent problem that the dome light stays on for varying lengths of time while driving. I thought it used to be an obvious plunger switch somewhere in the door frame but I can't seem to find one. Anyone know where it is/how to fix it?

Thanks KaeZoo. Worked like a charm. Unfortunately I have to wait 4 hours before I can give you your 10pts.

Spray some WD-40 into the latching mechanism on the door and open/close the door a few times. The dome light switch is built into that mechanism and it's very common for it to seize up. I've had to do this with both front doors on my Taurus at different times and I haven't had problems with either since.

the best fix i found was to cut both wires from the door switch and the wire that goes to the interior light. that would be the wire on the passenger side to the front. i ran me a new hot wire to the door switch, then from the switch to the light. that bypasses everything. for both doors to work, you have to do both doors, but you will use the same wire that goes to the light. and i also pulled the instrument panel and pulled the door agar light out. mine works fine. if you have any knowlege about wiring switches, it will be fairly easy
