It depends. If a person is so dangerously obese that they are putting un necessary strain on the NHS then yes they should be dragged kicking and screaming to the gym via the green grocers and told how to work a treadmill.
Of course if a person is over weight but not doing anyone any harm and not being a burden then let them get on with it.
To find out if you are over weight or not you need to figure out your body mass index (bmi) This is a general guide to whether you are over weight under weight or just right for your height and gender. You can calculate this at the nhs direct web site. Thats for all the people asking for definition as to what is overweight.

I personally think that someone who doesn't know the difference between effect or affect should be made to go to school for an extra year.
I also think that we ought to revere the overweight since, if what they say is true, they will die earlier and save us paying social security for them.
I also think that we should do some non-proprietary studies on weight management since apparently what we have been told simply doesn't work.
I also think government should stay the hell out of our lives to the best of its ability and I am not in favor of adding more stupid laws to our lives.
That said, I wouldn't complain if Hip-hop were made illegal.
Stupid laws are in the eye of the beholder.

First, understand that there is a difference between being overweight and being obese. Second, exercise isn't ALWAYS the answer. My whole family has struggled with weight. It's genetic. I walk 5 miles a day. I do aerobics. I only eat a half of a grapefruit for breakfast with NO sugar. I eat salad with no meat for lunch (only lemon juice, no dressing). I eat broiled or baked fish, chicken or beef, not fried. I'm on cholesterol medication. I drink 10 glasses of water a day. I'm doing the right things. My weight is 200 lbs. and has been for 3 years since I've been doing this. I'm only 5'5".

There is a document, called The Constitution of the United States of America.
If you type that phrase into your favorite search engine, you can find it on the web.
Read it.
It set limits on what government can do.
No, the government should not force people to exercise -- which would be impossible anyway.
Much as I hate ignorant morons, I don't think the government should "force" them to get a clue, either.

I don't think the government should be able to force anyone to do anything, but I do think that exercise should be promoted more in school. When I was at school I hated doing PE because it was degrading and rubbish, kids should be encouraged to find a type of exerise they enjoy, rather than forced to do ones they hate. PE put me off exercise big time, if it hadn't been for my dad introducing me to the wonderful world of martial arts, I might be a fatty myself now!! AHHHHHH what a scary thought!!

Absolutely not, the Government intrudes far too much into our way of life already. Where are you going from here if they don't lose weight? ban them from air travel?. Hitler started out with the Jews, then it was homosexuals, then people with a disability. No doubt he would have got round to the overweight in due course(problem there with Goering!)

A novel idea, but will never happen. While I personally agree with the sentiment in this liberal bilge era were are in anything that ever vaguely requires people to behave responsibly is attacked. Heck, the ACLU defends the rights of the North American Man Boy Love Association so how can anyone expect mandatory exercsise to have a chance?

They should be forced to do SOMETHING. What about the woman in the news? "The NHS is leaving me to die." Awwww.
So overweight its taxing everything. If there is a genuine medical problem then fair enough. If not, then i have no sympathy. Just feel for the tax payers who have to pay for this self inflicted bullshit. They are just lazy, greedy individuals who can't be arsed getting up and doing something positive about it. Sorry if i come across as angry. I am.

Thats just such a NOT nice way of thinking.
Live and let live,
why do you care if someone is fat?
do you think the government should make people go to classes so they can learn how to let others live their life as they want?
