Because of the easy accessibility of the coast of Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast most of the slave trade came from that region. I have heard about 90%. Since Lagos is a sea port and it is the home of the Yoruba people, many slaves were Yoruba as well. There are ties between the Yoruba and the ancient Egyptians according to archaeologists. It proves to be an interesting read.

Good answer, kolacat, I don't have much to add to that, except that the main square of Lagos is called Tinubu Square, after Madam Tinubu, the most notorious, and probably most prolific, slave-trader on the West African coasts.

Funny what people commemorate, isn't it ?
