If you plan to work in a lab, an associates degree in biotechnology would limit a person to lab technician jobs, that is, routine processing of samples, cleaning glasswear, and other basic tasks like that. Independent thought would likely not be part of the job, just do as you're told. If you were considering pursuing another area besides the lab, a knowledge of biotechnology could be useful in business or education.
