Movies leave no visuals to your imagination, they show you everything you need to see as where novels/books must create a landscape of words and it is up to you to interpret what the writer is trying to express.

The two of them play to different abilities.
In books, the writer has the ability to tell you exactly what the characters are thinking, or feeling through words. The down side is if you don't have the ability to actually visualize what is going on in the book, all it is, is a bunch of words.
In movies, the director has the benefit of showing you what is going on, and you can hear whats going on. On the other hand, most movies lose a lot of content because it takes time to explain the small details. They tend to get creative in showing/telling the small details, which are sometimes missed by the unobservant, but in a lot of situations small details are completely lost when transferring a story book into a movie. Sometimes, it is the small stuff that makes a story/movie good.

book usually come out first, a movie will follow with the same name or a different name with the same storyline.

most movies cut out alot of what is in the books so you never get the full effect when you watch the move vs reading the book.

most people won't read the book if they have seen the move.

if a person has read the book first they never think the movie did the book justice.

Movies are usually based on books, but dont carry little details, like maybe a guy had glasses in the book, but in the movie, the guy didn't. Also, when reading a book, you can imagine what something looks like, butr in a movie, it gives you something to look at and that's how it is.

Hope you like it!

You get more detail. You get descriptions straight out of the character's heads, and they often cut wonderful scenes from the book to make the movie an acceptable audience length. You lose quite a bit.

books go into more detail. They can only fit so much into a movie. If you're into comics and stuff, you'll notice how the comics are so much better then the movies, like with x-men.

Movies appeal to our visual sense, while books offer our imagination a chance to develop.
