in my apartment last night when I came home! I killed dozens of them and vacuumed them up. Then I ran out and bought bug spray and ant traps. I was afraid to go to sleep. But I only saw one this morning. I saw them in every room of my place but MOST of them were in the second bedroom not the kitchen. What caused the bugs? The weather change? It was in the 40s a few days ago, today it’s in the 70s. Go figure.

Hi,
I had the apt. maintenance guy come in and he said they are actually some sort of flying ant, not termites. Even odder, another apt. two doors down had the same problem. Both apts. were sprayed.
I’m a pretty messy person but not dirty. I’ve never had this problem before. Yuck!
Thanks!

Those "red ants" are actually termites. They come out in early spring once the weather improves. They hibernate in dry wood and will go out and search for wood.
You mentioned that you bought spray. Try a fogger, as it will get into all the crevices that termites might crawl into. Set a couple off in your apartment in the morning and leave for the day. Remove any pets of course.
That should take care of them at this early stage. Once they work themselves into the wood, it's a lot more difficult to get rid of them.
Best of luck.

Ants have thin waists, termites don't.......just for ID purposes. Either way I'd report it to your landlord. Also check all your closets and baseboards for signs of insect activity, like sawdust. Moist places like where faucets leak into cabinets or the wall are favorite locations. Also if there is or was a roof leak.........Those buggers can get into your furniture, like the couch frames. Before you move, clean and inspect everything.

Sounds like termites. Spring is in the air which means they are mating. You need a professional to rid them - contact your landlord.

Yup. The warm weather birthed all sorts of bugs. But you have to find how they are getting in.

how clean are you keeping your place? Bugs of any kind are attracted to garbage. Keep your place as clean and garbage free as possible and they will leave. As don't leave food of any kind lying around the place. That also attracts bugs.
