A man from a carpet agency came to measure our floors. The instant my mom opened the doors to let him in he said "Cox!! How did YOU get that name?" My mom said she got it from her husband. So he came inside and started measuring the floors and started making "small talk." He started talking about how he hated mexicans ( My mom is mexicican and my dad is black) and how they are taking over the country and shouldn't be here. Then y mom said, trying to ignore his comments " We were thinking about intalling trim because we are gonna sell the house in about three to four years, do you know how much that might cost?" the man answered, "Well, I have to tell you, its pointless to install trim because YOUR people dont look for that sort of thing so your just waisting your money." My mom didn't really know how to respond because at the time she was watching my sister and two other little boys and they were running around playing with a ball. Then the man looked at the picture of me and my sister

and was like "Yeah i used to live in Pasco and you have to watch out for those black people..." Then my sister and one of the little boys ( they are 2 yrs old) needed to go potty so my mom put them in sepperate bathrooms to go. Then the man came running around the corner to llok at the little boy going to the bathroom. My mom rushed him to the door to tell him to leave, but then my sister (remember she is only 2) came running out without pants or underwear needing help nad the man stared at her crotch. So naturaly, my mom took my sister back to the bathroom to help her. Then my mom told the man he had to leave and as he was leaving he said "By little boy... So ill be seeing you next week." He drove off. My mom was so apalled and shoked at his behavior she was to tears. I just wanted to know what you would do in her place...

I'd take that as a racial slur. I'd talk to the manager.

Best to ignore the racist banter, let the man do his job and invite him to leave promptly after he's done his job. If it's necessary, say at most, "I'm really not all that worried about the opinions you hold. You're here to measure the floors." Don't be provoked into adding to that statement. Repeat it, if necessary, word for word. Otherwise you will start an argument and achieve nothing.

If you want to complain, write a letter or phone the guy's manager and tell him exact objectionable remarks that the man made.

Sorry you had to put up with this. Some of us are nice people.

If he isn't the boss of the company, then I'd call his office and look for the manager to complain. Racist issue is not a small matter and he can get fired for it. I'd demand to know what the manager plans to do to solve this issue. Either to get a compensation for this worker's action, or report this matter to the authorities. But if he's the owner of his own business, and if I were your mom, I'd say to him." Excuse me, I'm a mexican too, and what you've just said is very disrespectful". If he couldn't care less about it, I'd ask him to leave my house, because I wouldn't want to do business or give a penny to a person like that.

Lemme guess, the carpet guy is white.

1. Report the guy to the carpet company. Give complete details.

2. Change carpet company, if necessary. (Most of the places really don't have regular employees; they just sub-contract the job.)

3. Be careful!

Hats off to your mom...under those circumstances it was really best to ignore the guy...to engage him in further conversation was futile.

First I'd complain to the company and ask them to send someone else. If they didn't respond and find a different company to put in the carpet and trim. That is very unprofession of him. In fact I may have thrown him out and called the company right then and there.

Seems you haven't finished writing everything but, the way I'd handle this situation is, tell him to leave my home then I would call the company he works for and lodge a complaint.

This man is just soo rude and racist! He has no right to speak to anyone like that anywhere, least of all in your own home!!

He should have been escorted out of the house and she should call the company and make a complaint. That is the most unprofessional attitude I have heard of besides him being rude and ignorant.

File a complaint and get him fired,he has no business working with the public.

I would speak my mind because that is just really affensive to a person. The man had no reason to say that in the first place. i would tell them to leave immediately and when they did call thier company manager.

Firstly get the guy name and the vehicle number. I think you should make a call to the company manager or HR dept. Reports to the manager what ever comment he made and his advised too.

I would have thrown his *** out immediately. I thought it was just us Asians who just stood idly and took such comments.

Your story rings so true. There is no doubt about what happened. Please report him and his company to someone who will make an issue about it.

People like him are ruining this country.
