There is a book in Australia called "A fortunate life" by A B Facey. It was amazing. He was born in 1890's and died in the 1980's. He was reared by his grandparents and survived Gallipoli and the great deppresion and his son and wife dying and stil thought that he had a fortunate life. Amazing story by an amazing man.............makes you think that the every day things that you go through are nothing compared to things that this man went through and he Still had a positive outlook at 80

Yes I have, but not the kind of book anyone would guess. It was a reference book for an Intel Microprocessor and I read it in 1976. It was the main reason for me to switch careers, which allowed me to retire 24 years later at age 48.

The Choirboys-Joseph Wambaugh. It made me want to be a cop more than I already did. It showed a micro-cosm of police life thru the eyes of some officers who had trouble dealing with the death and despair they encountered.
It probably helped keep me alive during times of despair doing a job that a lot of people hate you for, without ever knowing who you are or why you chose to help other people.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's childhood pal. That book gave me new perspective on religious types and that they take themselves way to seriously. That book is hilarious! It's by Christopher Moore if you want to read it. I can't get the image of a child Jesus with a dead lizard hanging out of his mouth out of my head. Great book!
