1.Make sure the nut end is screwed down tight and not cross threaded.
2.Make sure that you are gas valve knob in the pilot section and that the button for lighting that gas held down with the flame on the thermocouple for 2 minutes.
If the this doesn't help then try another thermocouple if another thermocouple does not work then you may need a new gas valve in this case the gas valve is pretty expensive and if your tank is more than 7 years old then I would replace the tank.

You have to make sure you replaced it with the right type of thermocouple. If it is correct, you probably have a defective gas valve. Those are relatively easy to replace.

if you have a whirlpool look into the class action law suit that is going on now because even if you just relaced the therocoupling you may have to do it again i know i have a water heater guy coming yet again to fix mine. YOu can try calling your gas company if your water heater id gas and they will come free and try to light it for you ..

Make sure the bulb on the end is close enough to the pilot to sense that it is on.
