I was in active treatment with a psychiatrist. The doctor put me on medications and i was seen by this person for quite some time. The doctor received a phone call from a person claiming that i was "abusing my medications".The doctor would not disclose the identity of the caller, but i suspect it was a friend or family member with some sort of vendetta against me.I asked the doctor about the identity of the person and all they would say is "it was a reliable source".In any case, the doctor refused any further treatment, and dropped me from the patient roster based on heresay.I also denied the allegations. Is this patient abandonment? I researched the term and found that a doc could be legally liable at least in a civil proceeding if they drop you without-1.A resonable amount of time to find a new doc (1 month) and a plan to do so or illegal activity which was not the case.keep in mind I was also on medications that could cause withdrawls and in some cases death if stopped abruptly.advice??

Your doctor may terminate you as a patient at any time for any reason (with the exception of discrimination reasons).
He does have to provide you with a reasonable amount of time (varies by state) to find a new physician, unless your activities are clearly illegal or you are a threat to him. He does not have to refill your meds if he believes they are being used for reasons other than the reason they were prescribed.
Since you have been dropped, and you are fully aware that your medications need to be refilled you must be proactive in seeking a new physician who is willing to see you and prescribe the medications. You can also contact your local health department to explain your situation and they may be able to find you a willing treating physician.
