I say YES! I have had teaching jobs and I'm shocked--you have to pass a drug test to work in an office or factory, but not to work with children! And then we are shocked to hear every few months or so of a teacher selling drugs to kids!!

In case you're wondering, no, there is no drug testing prior to starting employment. Scary stuff.

I say yes also. I believe drug and alcohol testing. I had a teacher who I KNOW was an alcoholic. You smelled it after lunch.

I think i most definitely agree with this.

Many schols do require drug exams for instructors, some pre-employ, and some random. you'll locate that it relies upon upon even if the school is inner most or public, and/or which state, county, or city the school is in. There can reward in receiving authorities funding if a school implements a drug-loose software (including drug exams). as well, many faculties nevertheless carry to the conception of drug testing as a contravention of privateness (besides as different motives) and do not require such testing.

Only for cause...like smelling it on her breath, slurred words, or erratic behavior. Otherwise, without probable cause, it would be illegal and intrusive on privacy rights.

Employees can volunteer to take substance tests without violating rights. For example, before hiring a new teacher, a condition of employment can be a volunteer drug test. To be sure, knowing this, the new hire might stay clean to pass the test, but that would be really difficult for addicted users.

Understand, selling and using drugs are quite different. Drug sellers, knowing the down sides to use, are often not users...they know better. So even drug tests are unlikely to catch teachers who would sell drugs to kids.

I was once a teacher. I replaced one who had alcohol on his breath until the day he retired. I quit after 5 horrible stressful years of dealing with a tough high school crowd without any drugs or alcohol in my system. Something tells me you'll have to replace a lot of people who are drug abusers with alcohol abusers. I'd rather my kid's teacher went home to smoke a 'friendly' cigarette than to show up at school with a flask in his coat pocket. Pitiful, ain't it?

I say when they hire them it is fine but afterward NO. Not without cause and as far as alcohol it MUST depend on teacher's actions. Teacher might be brilliant at getting the info into a kid's thick skull after a few beers.
