This is a loaded question. Western culture has placed it's values on making the individual feel good and on sex. Those two qualities seem to be mainstream.

Religion can also create a problem if the doctrine is focused on rules and regulations instead of love of God and love of others. If religion is used to "lord it over you" then religion is for control and not for love.

Faith and trust in God is not about religion. It is about learning who you are and why God made us. Through the discovery of self and of God you will find that God created a certain order of things and that order is now in disorder. It is up to us to find out what it is that God has designed and for us to work within that design.

Relationships will work better if you first make peace with who you are and why God designed you. Until you discover who you are then you will seek the marriage partner to fill the void you have. You will be dependant on the other person's happiness to make you happy. This will lead to unhappiness.

Stay away from religion and work towards faith. In other words, don't seek out rules and regulations of a God who is far greater than the religion we create. However, keep in mind that we are to live within God's design and we need to continue to seek God and ask God to guide our conscience.

if a relationship is good, then it will last.

some people think they have a good relationship, while their partner thinks otherwise.... people dont' talk about their feelings or their personal priorities in life.....

truth is people dont' seem to get to know each other before they dive into things.

i think that if a person is a bible-thumper and is always preaching, that would even turn the Pope OFF!

otherwise, if two people like going to church, and practicing good morals and have the same outlooks and beliefs, that might be helpful.

For some it works and sometimes one partner is just fanatical about it which drives the other away.
