Every woman i have come into contact with has had a problem with shoes, bags, make-up, and clothing in general to the extent they either try and convince me they've had it for years or say they bought half price in the sale.

I'm not saying all women are like this, just 99.99%.

Not all women are spendaholics. I know some very frugal women. I do think that women are programmed to be this way. Most of the commercials are geared to appeal to women. The exceptions are tools and trucks. Women spend the most on beauty products and clothing simply because we are constantly trying to fit images of what we feel we are supposed to be. The clincher is that men are mostly to blame. We compete with the women most sought after by men.

No.. Some women actually go crazy when in malls or shops and spend all they have in their pockets. However, many women, such as myself, are very cost-aware and try to find bargains.

I am actually the complete opposite from a spendaholic- I am very thrifty and buy tons of bargains and discounts. I only splurge when there is something I REALLY REALLY REALLY want, have thought about it, am willing to spend my money on it, and have saved enough cash so not to hurt my bank account or savings.

My wife and I both have good jobs and make above the median income, so we are comfortable. She works as hard and as long as I do. She's been that way since she's 15. She goes shopping a lot, but she almost never buys anything, and when she does, she feels guilty, so needless to say, unnecessary spending is kept to a minimum. I'm not a materialistic person, and have been driving the same car and wearing the same jeans and t-shirts for years. She decorates herself and the house very nicely, but believe me, she's a bargain hunter and will only pay full retail price when it's really worth it. How did I get so lucky!?!

as long as she doesn't demand gold and diamonds annually, I won't consider her spendaholic. Anything that is show-off.

She may buy perfumes, good clothes if they suit her figure and that would drive my libido wild - if she's a good organizer and takes care of my weekly budget, I would give all the luxury I can afford.

The same rules apply for men and booze and cigarettes to be very fair.

Well, this woman is notoriously tight with money. And since it only takes an exception of one to destroy an "all X are Y" kind of stereotype, there you go.

(However, I do admit that women tend to spend for personal things more often then men WITH THE CAVEAT THAT men spend the same amount. The difference seems to be, in my experience, that women will spend money on lots of smaller things while men will spend the same amount on one or two big things [fancy car, boat, electronic equipment], making it look like women spend more overall.)

In my experience men buy themselves toys and women supply the needs of the household so who has more fun? hmm Sometimes spending helps when needs are not being met. It can be a substitute for a relationship or from boredom. Tell him to romance you more and do more things with you then you won't feel the need to substitute him with shopping. Mmm

Definitely. But then again so are most guys...my friend Brenden can go out and spend 500 buck in an hour on clothes...he even changed one of the rooms in his three bedroom house into a walk in closet.

men are spendaholics also, some are much worse than women... women just have the 'shopping' stereotype

maybe it's men are spendaholics and women are shopaholics?
