the night before last I took my son to the ER because he has a whole diaper full of blood, they can't figure out what it is and it's highly unlikey that he swallowed anything because he hates being on the floor. I'm frustrated that he's had so many x-rays and no one knows anything. Has anyone had any experience with this?

This is probably easy for me to say since it isn't me in your shoes, but I would be calling my doctor and making some demands. Blood in stool can be indicative of something bad.

Emergency room at a children's hospital. Call your pediatrician and get an appointment with a specialist in that area. Babies don't have blood in their stool and have nothing wrong. Someone just hasn't done the right test yet. DON'T LET THIS GO. If nothing else go back to the emergency room and demand an answer.

If it's red blood - has he been constipated? Sometimes babies get a little tear when passing a REALLY hard stool. That's nothing to freak about - they usually heal.

If it looked like coffee grounds, you need to take him to a pediatric ER or at the VERY least a pediatric gastroenterologist. That means he's bleeding internally somewhere and it needs to be addressed NOW.

Defiantly get a second opinion! Blood in the stool can be bright red, maroon in color, black and tarry, or occult (not visible to the naked eye). Causes of blood in stool range from harmless, annoying conditions of the gastrointestinal tract such as hemorrhoids to serious conditions such as cancer. Blood in the stool should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Rectal bleeding (known medically as hematochezia) refers to passage of bright red blood from the anus, often mixed with stool and/or blood clots. Most rectal bleeding comes from the colon, rectum, or anus. The color of the blood during rectal bleeding often depends on the location of the bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. Generally, the closer the bleeding site is to the anus, the blood will be a brighter red. Thus, bleeding from the anus, rectum, and the sigmoid colon tend to be bright red, whereas bleeding from the transverse colon and the right colon (transverse and right colon are several feet away from the anus) tend to be dark red or maroon colored.

Try going to a pediatrician not the er for treatment. Their goal is to diagnose you and get you out as soon as possible as a parent you know when something is wrong with your child and don't stop until you get the answer that satisfies you.

Take your son to another ER, and don't leave until the doctors understand that you mean business.

YOU are your child's advocate!

Request a pediatrician in the ER, and explain to them you are not leaving until they have your son diagnosed or are going to run IMMEDIATE testing on him.

A week is to long to wait with your child's health.
