I would hope that South Africa will host the world cup as it would be a boost to that country's economy, tourism, and futbol. but i doubt that they will be able to host for a couple of reasons. First and most important is the crime that exists there. If it continues as it is now some countries might refuse to go to the world cup out of fear. Fans will also be weary of going, making the world cup loose some of its luster. Also, the stadiums might not be ready in time for the world cup. I read an article that cost was more than what they had expected and some were already going over their budget. So construction might be stopped and who know when it would restart. Because of this, the world cup might have to be played somewhere else, like in '86 when Mexico had to step in for Columbia. I've heard that if South Africa can't host it would maybe go to Australia. I think that Australia would be a better host, but I would like to see South Africa host the world cup so that it could benefit from the experience.

To be honest I doubt think it matters whether they can or not, the fact is FIFA's policies on deciding who stages the world cup is, at best a joke, at worst corrupt.

I mean the world cup is arguably the greatest sporting event ever, and is eagerly awaited by millions of people. But for some reason it seems politics becomes embroiled in FIFA's thinking. For example Mexico staged the WC in 1970 and then again in 86........... what 16 years!!. Germany who hosted the last one last year, also hosted in 74. England on the other hand...well 41 years and counting..

So to answer your question, I hope so, but the jury must be out. I personally think Europe (Which has the best leagues and stadium) and South America (which has the best international sides) should take the lion's share, but as with everything else, political correctness has become involved, and therefore the WC will go to SA, regardless of whether or not the stadiums are a disgrace or whether tumbleweed rolls across the stands as fans sI'mply cant afford to travel AGAIN!!

Hope im proved wrong... Come on England!!

All these questions about whether South Africa will be able to host the world cup and how safe it will be are valid and inadvertantly placing pressure on the government to deal with the already way out of control crime issue.

I don´t think people realise or can comprehend just how bad the crime is in South Africa.
There are over 50 murders a day, and conservatively speaking around 4 times that many rapes, although these are the statistics released by the government and fall way short of those released by the Medical Boards and Interpol.

Whether reinforcing the police force by an additional 30 000 officers (or is it now 15 000 - as stated by Police commissioner) will make a difference, I am not certain, as the police are already short of basic equipment, vehicles and an efficient, honest justice system to support them.

And will the fruits of hosting this event ever get to the people that really need it? We have already seen in the newspapers how money is being "filtered" out from the planning stage to the contracting stage.
And who is going to have to foot the financial deficits after all the obligatories have their piece of pie? The taxpayers?

A lot of South Africans in the tourist industry have begun a culture of making money at whatever risk to others, and this money is usually made from unsuspecting tourists who are not being adequately informed of the dangers of being a tourist in South Africa.
I don´t feel that these are the actions of responsible people - government and tourist industry alike.

Tourists should be warned of the dangers of visiting South Africa and informed on how to take adequate measures to protect themselves during their stay i.e. how to travel, what to carry and wear, what to do in certain situations, and other helpful information about how resident South Africans keep safe.

I believe that South Africa do have the ability to host the world cup but also it could backfire on South Africa and the economy if it is not done pesponsibly.

PLEASE google or youtube - "crime south africa" , or "rapes south africa" etc.
educate yourself, for your own safety and that of your family´s!

Take a look at this link, it´s a camera on one street corner in Durban, South Africa.

This was the same question everybody asked about Greece before they hosted the Olympics. When the big day came Greece was ready, and S. Africa will be ready too. It will be a great world cup. I'm already planning to go.

Hmm, whoever said somthing about south africa and comunisum...erm like what the hell...
anyway... sorry yeah
I don't think they could host the world cup, there will be way too much violence. Being as South Africa is at the moment, it's hard to believe their tourisim industry still stands. I saw an artical in an american paper about it and it says that they should think about changing the location due to crime etc.

many human beings seem to forget that South Africa has already held 2 quite effective international cups already, useful soccer is greater effective than rugby and cricket, yet I see no reason it wont be a sturdy fulfillment. Already stadiums are being geared up and upgraded, shipping structures more advantageous etc. Judging by way of South Africas contemporary tourism strengthen human beings dont seem deterred too plenty.

Possibly, but not likely. FIFA tends to pick countries that are free-world countries, unlike all of South Africa.

No. They sent it to Africa out of political tokenism, and I fear that visiting fans may get killed in a country with such a high murder rate.
