was sacked over the phone, was told they are giving me 1weeks notice and they did not want me to work it but would still pay me, and all this would be sent out in writing, but its been a week and i still havent recieved any letter

Depends upon the rapport you had with your employer. Without something in writing you're pretty much out of luck. If you have any friends there, call one and see if you can get what the talk in the office is. Maybe with some corroboration you might have some leverage to get what they promised. You didn't say what state you are in? There are recourses. In TX, It would be filing a complaint with Texas Workforce Commission. Look for a similar agency (where you get unemployment) in your state.
