I have a laptop, Toshiba Satelite, and for about the past week it has been freezing in the middle of very simple tasks. I haven't been able to restart it by CTRL+ALT+DEL or by pressing and holding down the power button. I've had to remove the battery to shut it off. It also kept pushing the date back to 2005, which I had to fix every time I restarted.

Now, I press the power button and it blinks like it's loading up and then a beep in the computer (not from the speakers) starts. It beeps a few times, then shuts off before trying to turn itself back on. It does it about five times and then completely shuts off. I am desperate! I just spent 150$ replacing the power jack and now this happens? I wasn't even able to save anything onto CD yet!

I've counted, and it beeps four times. I don't have a warrenty on it. It had a 1 year plan but that ran out last October.

It's horrible that the eight-year-old desktop running on Windoze ME works better than a 2 year old laptop on XP. Mind boggling

I hate to be the pessimist. But it sounds like your laptop is dead. You can take it to an authorized repair center to get an estimate on what the damage is and how much it will cost to repair, but i see a new laptop in your future.

The beeping noise is the result of your computer performing a Power On Self Test (POST) and finding that some of the essential hardware is misbehaving. The number and length of the repeating beeping pattern can tell you which device is at fault. Normally you would find this information in a laptop manual or on the manufacturer's support website. However, to give you a shortcut I'm including two websites that list generic beep codes and what they mean. Toshiba may or may not use these same codes.

If the beep code is complaining about bad memory, then you should be able to easily replace that yourself. Almost anything else that can go wrong in a laptop should be fixed by an experienced technician, and hopefully covered by the warranty. Good luck.

Count the number of beeps and write them down. For each type of error the motherboard runs into trying to start the machine it has a particular code in the form of a series of beeps.

Look in your manual for your laptop or try to find the info online about startup error codes, beeps, for your model.

It sound like a piece of hardware you have has gone faulty on you and from what you tell me it sounds like the memory went bad. I had the same problem only I still had one good stick of ram aside from the bad and I was getting crashes and crc errors in everything from downloads to dvd burns. I used Memtest to track down the bad stick and replace it.

Right after getting the bad reports from memtest, I took out the good stick my machine wouldn't even start. When I swapped the other in everything was perfect.

If it keeps losing the Real Time Clock (RTC) settings, then most likely your CMOS battery is done for. That's the little coin cell that keeps the ROM settings powered when you shut the laptop off. Some of them are easy to get to, and for others you have to disassemble the whole $^&%$^#*&^*^$ machine. Good luck with it!

i think of it could be the irritating stress. in case you probably did no longer use a relax mat on your computing device, it might desire to have broken your annoying stress once you employ it for an prolonged, long term with out ever turning it off. you are going to need a clean annoying stress substitute in case your computing device keeps freezing each and every of the time. Get a relax mat.

I woriking in XXXXXXX computer company, this sound like motherboard or memory. I don't which model you got, some model Toshiba you get 3 year warranty. Best way contact Toshiba.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
