It depends on what kind of dance. Ballet is definitely an art, however it requires all the strength and hard work as a sport. If you are doing a speech on why dance is sport, then I would talk about how dance requires strength and how much time is put into rehearsing, like a sports practice. You could talk about competitions and how they are like sports games or championships. Dance nationals are like the championships in other sports. You could also talk about the cost of dance and sports. Certain sports cost a lot of money and you could compare it with the cost of dance.

Believe me if golf and bowling are sports then dance is definitely a sport. I honestly believe that sports involves sweating and dancers SWEAT. If sport means competition then check out all the dance competitions across the country. If sports means muscular, take a look at a dancer's body http://www.adrianmartinez.com/images/figure/the_dance.jpg. My daughter has danced since she was three. She swam in high school swim team and she pole vaulted on the track team...without dance she would have not had the muscle tone, agility or balance to do those things.

Well, I am a performing arts freak, so to me, yes dance is definately considered a sport. But to some people, it is absolutely not a sport. I think that dance is one of those sports than can sort of be called a sport, but isnt really considered one, like cheerleading.

Dance is art, first of all, particularly if you are talking about serious dancing. It is art that requires a lot of physical strenght. It is art that requires you to be fitter than a sports player.
When you dance you express your feelings, depending on the type of music you're dancing.
It could be considered as a sport because you can burn upto 600 calories in one hour. Like for example there are DVD's like "Zumba" which is about dancing as a way to work out, and having lots of fun!.

Dance is considered a type of fine art, but to me it is like a sport. You work in teams, practice, compete, work-out, and sweat like others do in other sports.

of course dance is a sport!!
to dance you need to be flexible, and have a sense of rythm!
you also need to be energetic(to be able to do leaps and jumps)
u have to learn to have good posture and how to breath correctly as to not pass out after a fast-paced and hard dance.
u need to be able to pick op choreography fast and to do pirouettes even faster.
like ever sport u need to devote many hours to practice for dance and u need to be quick to pick up the style(almost like a special holding of a bat for baseball) and the steps.
being a dancer means that u need to be sharp-witted and if u don't love it, then u will not be good at it(just like any other sport)
so yes,... dance is a sport
that's what my opinion is, i hope it helps,
Kay

well people don't consider dance a sport because there is no offical way to score.even at dance competitions i may do a perfect jump but one judge thinks i was late but another thinks it was perfect. that is why. in basketball you make a basket and there is no official way to score in dance. trust me i know it sucks! ITS ALL OPINION!

i have been in dance for a long time and i would say that it is. some ppl think its easy. it works your body really hard and care really hurt your body if not done correctly. I think its harder than any spart i have ever heard of. (especially in pointe.)
