I was blown away. I had no idea that the earth was in that bad of shape. Al Gore made a point somewhere in the film that overpopulation is a major factor in the Earth's downfall. The population is expected to be 9.1 billion in the year 2009.

So my question is... Why do people (especially religious folks) think that it is so important to keep on over-reproducing our species? Will they ever stop labeling birth control as a sin and start looking at it as a necessity? Does God and the catholic church not care about environmental issues? Aren't there just way too many people now?

Why wouldn't it be a good idea to draw the line somewhere and say there should only be 1 or 2 children per couple? All those children will have nowhere to live because the Earth is just going to crap out in the next 50-60 years. It'll be too dangerous for them to even go outdoors.

How many people are too many people? Why is it so necessary to have a child?

**Looking for some intelligent input**

There IS tons of scientific evidence out there! The glaciers are tiny compared to how large they were 40 years ago. WE NEED THEM! They keep getting smaller and smaller. Where do you think that water is going to go?

Also...here's some scientific evidence for you .......it was 69 degrees in upstate new york on January 5th this year...that's the middle of winter! Do you think God felt we deserved a nice day??? Ignorant sheep!

It's not necessary to have children. It's a choice. People are selfish and only think of themselves. There are plenty of children out there for adopting but people are so self-centered and ignorant that they say things like "I want MY child not someone elses." The earth is suffering and we'll all pay for the ignorance.

The question has nothing to do with religion and all to do with freedom. I don't believe in overproduction either. I think we should make grow our own food and that the real problem is the industrial revolution. Some people create interest groups and create a crisis to manipulate people. We go by the research of these groups and later legislation is passed to control us and take away our freedoms. It is no different than the war on drugs and the war in Iraq. Keep the people scared like cattle and herd them. In China woman are abducted, killed, and forced to have abortions. Little girls born there are mutilated beyond recognition. It is a woman's right to choose to have a child, just as it is her right to family plan. Vigilantes are doing this they say.

The earth is not overpopulated if you understand that humans, unlike animals understand the earth and create their own food.

Republicans and Democrats are on the same side. There side is the maintainers of power and manipulation of the dumb masses (m not needed).

I agree in a lot of ways. There isn't going to be much of a place to live in 60 years...so why produce children...
but the answer is..why deprive yourself of something so precious because you are scared of the future? And how could you not know the earth was in such dnagerous shape!
I do agree with china in the one child rule...but maybe not so excessive. i think 2 children per house is good. also, make all car companies switch to Hybrid.
Thats a good start!
There are 8 pregnant women at my daughters daycare!
4 at my work...
and 2 of my friends.
that is 14 children that I know of being born around the same time!
That is CRAZY!!!!

It's funny how indecisive these conservative, global warming skeptics are. They criticize Gore saying that he has private jets, mansions, etc, but if a nobody comes along and has something to say, they label that person as unqualified. I really don't understand these people.
Nonetheless, they believe a fictional book written by a non-practicing M.D.

By the way, with the exception of a few minor inaccuracies, "Inconvenient Truth" was right on the money.

I think that IF the church actually decides to allow birth control it will be far to late. I think that people need to look at that so called "sin" and realize that it is a necessity. It is, like you said, no longer acceptable to have all those kids. It is definitely an issue that is going to be brought to he light a lot in the near future but I think it will end up being up to the people to say enough is enough, I don't think the church will ever cave in honestly.

The facts are there, the planet is in trouble. Doesn't stop us from wanting children though.
Religion is another matter. Religion does not rely on fact, it relies on faith and dogma.
Facts, and science are not easily compatable with religion and faith.

Don't worry too much, nature balances things out when she must. Hopefully we will not have to live thru it though, gonna be tramatic and dramatic. Expect a worldwide population crash on the scale never seem before.
Billions and billions will perish.

There are alot of children who are homeless, in foster care, etc. It is sad. Regardless of people's religious beliefs, there needs to be some kind of meeting halfway for catholics-if we had education and birthcontrol available to all, maybe that could help some of the population problem.
I think God cares, I think most Catholic people are selfish and slelf-rightous

I have one daughter, not planning on having more...

Don't believe everything you see in the movies, especially coming from someone who has been known to stretch the truth as much as Al Gore. There is some global warming but is very debateable whether man really has anything to do with it at all. He is right about the population though.

I have actually seen some religious people on this forum say that they don't believe in global warming because God said He wouldn't flood the earth again. It just floored me.

I think some people choose to be blind. They don't want to admit they are so terribly wrong, so they just choose not to see it.

It has been less than 24hrs. since you've seen this and you're pretty worked up over this. Don't be too easily alarmed,.. yet.

Be careful not to believe EVERYTHING you see or hear in the media, the movies, news, etc.

Beware of PARTIAL TRUTHS and consider the existence of OMITTED FACTS.

Are you aware that the polar ice caps on MARS are "melting" as well? Is it possible that whatever is driving the rise in temperature on parts of Mars could also be affecting the Earth??
