By lower end of the spectrum do you mean those who have only minor symptoms of an ASD or those with profound Autism?

And who is doing the realising of needs? Are you refering to self realisation or realisation by carers?

Maslow's theory was based on only fit and healthy people as he himself said "the study of crippled, stunted, immature, and unhealthy specimens can yield only a cripple psychology and a cripple philosophy."

It ws written during the time of eugenics and whilst relevant in some aspects, lacks in understanding of those who are mentally different.

please feel free to message me.

Difficulty with social relationships, with an appearance of aloofness or indifference, and with inappropriate or repetitive styles of approach if contact is initiated are all characteristic of Autism . A useful summary is provided by Wing (1988a), who refers to the Triad of Social Impairments, namely impairment of social recognition, of social communication, and of social understanding and imagination.
The level of Belonginess and Love: affiliate with others, be accepted; and Esteem: to achieve, be competent, gain approval and recognition on Maslow's theory would be especial hard for an Autistic person to achieve bases on the social deficient.
