Babies and pregnant women were both sent to the gas chambers. Occasionally a baby was hidden in a suitcase or pile of clothing and was later found by the guards. Made no difference. The baby was killed.

A couple of women did succeed in hiding their pregnancies and had their babies in the barracks. I believe one escaped with her baby, but only one.

During the selection process, children were divided into two groups: those who wer fit for work, and those who were not. Those who were deemed healthy enough to work had their prisoner ID tattooed on them, and were given uniforms. The children weo were sent to work, most often in munitions factories, were not anticipated to survive for much longer than a few weeks. This was due to the work load, placed on them by the Nazis and due to the lack of food, and unhygienic conditions within the camp. Those childeren deemed unfit for work were immediately taken to the gas chambers. These children were often very dependent on their mothers. Howefe, some children, particularly twins, were kept by the camp doctor for medical experimentation. They went through many brutal surgeries such as attemts to change eye coloor by injection chemicals into their eyes, they wunderwent amputations and in at leat on case attempting to sugrically transform twins in Siamese twins. ( This to me is just plain cruelity and discussing, how could anyone do such things?).
