Because the moon landing was a hoax he knew it was a good way of generating money for other projects anyone who has seen the footage with a high IQ knows it is a lie and I have watched 10 hrs worth of footage so all i can say is research this yourself.

The American voters gave him the authority by electing him President. The setting of goals for national agencies is part of the job. He also set the goal of a free and democratic South Vietnam. One goal worked the other didn't.

NASA was able to put men on the moon, but it was not prepared to build a base there. Other presidents had other goals, as did the people at NASA. They wanted to send out robotic probes, to build a shuttle that would allow the construction of a permanent space station. Returning to the moon was put off until a permanent lunar base could be built.

Those who don't believe that men walked on the moon are hardheads who think everything is a conspiracy faked up on a Hollywood set. They "know", so don't confuse them with facts.

The American people gave him the authority--by electing Kennedy president. And he did not simply order it--political speeches aside, he was offering the lunar program as a proposal to Congress--which they endorsed and funded.

And you are wrong--Kennedy did know where NASA was technically--if you check the history, you'll find he went over the whole thing with the NASA people BEFORE he made the proposal.

Why wouldn't he know how advanced NASA was? Anyway, it wasn't a matter of authority or what NASA was or wasn't capable of yet, he simply set the moon landing as a national goal and asked Congress for the money to help make it happen. That's what good administrators do: they set goals and priorities and inspire others to live up to them.

He did know, we all knew, or at least hoped it would be us first. No one gives a President the authority to say anything at all, and as has been proven they sometimes say the oddest things. There are certain things the President is specifically prohibited about saying, things about national security and such, but he IS the authority for other things.

Who gave him the Authority? He did, he was the president. We were ina race to prove that out d*ck was bigger than Russia's and we said "well be on the moon first", not knowing whether it was possible or not, its called bluffing. We won that round of poker but Russia did not lose it just folded and is waiting for their next good hand.

But he didn't need to know if they were not really going to go. The race is now on to get back to the moon and personally my money is on China. Its going to be embarassing for the USA when China is unable to find the stars and stripes.
