I have a Honda S2000 and it's awesome!!
It's quicker than cars that cost £10K more. Real drivers car - makes a great sound.
Honda engines are bullet proof and it won Top Gear car of the year based on drivers questionnair again.
Hood is electric unlike MG and MX-5. Everyone has a Boxster or Z4 - mostly driven by people who want to look good and have no imagination.

Not sure about the whole pounds conversion (I'm American) but I've had 2 convertibles so I figured I'd weigh in. For a long time I had a BMW 3 series, then a couple months ago I got a Mercedes CLK. Both have very small backseats, so hopefully you won't be driving kids around, but (nostalgia aside) I would say I like the CLK better. I think its a smoother ride, and with the top up its still very quiet inside... more difficult to see out the back window, yes, but I can deal.
That said, I'm really looking forward to checking out the new 3 series convertible from BMW. It looks great in the pictures.
Take your time and look at a bunch of models, its a big decision. Also, be sure that you drive each one with the top up, and maybe even in the rain to get a feel for how they handle.
Hope this helps, and best of luck.

I would STRONGLY recommend the VW eos for a couple of reasons.
1) It's a very sexy looking car.
2) It's a hard top so you won't have to worry about it looking rugged after years of driving it.
3)VWs tend to hold their value better then other cars. (which means when you are ready to buy another car, you'll get more cash back when you sell a VW. This is relative, of course.))
4) It's one of the only convertables that still has a sunroof when the top is up.
5) I have one and I still get excited to drive it.
I would really check it out. Oh yeah...and you can buy them used for around $20k. Since their used still has a great warrenty--I would stronger consider it.

I have been driving for 37 years and have allways driven convertibles.I am driving a bmw 328i convertible at the moment and rate it as my best yet.Fast, reliable and a full four seater with good resale value. With your budget you can afford a late model E46 330 i which will be better again than my E36,and has a heated glass rear window. This would be your best buy for £20k. Good luck

Apparantly, the best convertibles are the ones that are made as convertibles. For example, a Mazda MX-5 was always meant to be a convertible, where as a VW Gold was made as a hard top car to start with and then they bought a convertible model.
I have a Mazda MX-5 and it is great fun. I see Mazda have brought out a model with a fold away hard-top... even better!

I would get a Pontiac G6 Convertible. It's a nice car that will seat all the ppl you might want to give rides to but you'll still enjoy taking rides in. Go take a test drive

Depending on your age and driving record for insurance purposes then take your pick, theres loads out there for 20k.If your young i would go for the latest vauxhall tigra(vast improvement on the last one).Personally i think i would look at a second hand Mercedes or Bmw with a 3litre engine.Better resale value when you change it in a few years after the wind noise finally gets you down on the motorway!

well you gonna have to go with cars like honda volkswagen toyota cause there pretty cheap.but toyota doesn't make a car with a covertable. Honda 2000 is the but thats over that price which is 36k.vw with its crapy looking Bug covertable. Best for you to get a used one. Because covertables cost more than coupes. Except for dodge and the only car they make covertable is a The viper thats way out your price range. So good luck on trying to find a covertable.

try looking at a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible. they are amazing cars! very reliable and affordable! I have a 2007 and I absolutely love it! I definitely don't regret my decision to get a VW Beetle, as far as I'm concerned, as long as I'm driving I will continue to buy Volkswagen's. They have been really GREAT cars for me!!
